quick high end gear reviews

i went to play some new gear today and what i found was a 59 reissue lp and a 60 historic lp. both very nice guitars but i liked the neck on the 59 better. I loved the feel of the lighter woods and hand rubbed finishes (on the neck of the historic) the sound was also great when unplugged. the burstbuckers left me feeling cheated. after hearing what the guitars sounded like unplugged i was not impressed with the burstbuckers.

i played these guitars through a few amps but two amps to note were the new bassman ltd and a reliced but new blues junior with a jensen speaker. both amps were amazing, great sounds with all the guitars i played. I was especially impressed with the blues junior. I can't seem to find this amp on fenders website, but i would like to know more.

all in all the both guitars are great and the amps were amazing, especially for the price. the guitars would need about 250 dollars worth of new stuff (pots, caps and pickups, maybe a switch)

If anyone has any information on that blues junior please tell me, cause that was a great sounding amp

The Blues Juniors rock! I played one a bunch of years ago and was decently impressed, but not overwhelmed. I found one used a few months ago that needed some work. I did the Billm mods (from the Fender Discussion Forum) and it immediately became my #1 amp for rehearsals and small to medium sized gigs. It's a major tone beast!

Re: quick high end gear reviews

thanks for the link, but the one i played was reliced, had a tweed covering and a jensen speaker. it was so much better than the last regular blues junior i had played through, i was wondering if the outside and the speaker were the only differences

Re: quick high end gear reviews

There's been an evolution of the Blues Jr's since the first version.

If it was the Relic'ed Tweed version it's the most recent incarnation. It has a cream PCB baord, is a little brighter than the original models and does have the speaker upgrade.

Re: quick high end gear reviews

My friend might sell his Blues Pro Jr. Tweed. All stock. Great lil'amp!!

Re: quick high end gear reviews

well, theres a limited edition hrdx with hardwood casing & a jensen c12n, sounds a lot like the blues, fenders special editions usually have that speaker

Re: quick high end gear reviews

im not sure about changing the pots and all on a historic reissue!!!!! i'd at msot change the pick ups im sure for 6-7 grand its hardware is pretty good...not too sure about the junior amp though

If you think the Blues Jr and the HotRod Deluxe sound very much alike then you need a hearing test.

No offense meant but they're "apples and oranges" as far as tonal comparisons.

i am not talking bridge or tail piece, just some cts pots and orange drops. I was not impressed with what i saw on the inside of the control cavity. the blues junior was actually more impressive on the inside than the gibsons

Re: quick high end gear reviews

I'm sure the Blues Junior benefitted from the speaker upgrade. That is the first improvement a lot of players make, after upgrading the tubes.

probably the majority of B Jr owners on this forum have upgraded the the tubes, speakers, or both.

BTW, I think you'll find the amp on Fender's site under "Pro Tube" series, or something like that

Re: quick high end gear reviews

Hey Scott,

Glad you liked the amps, me too. I'm not sure about the exact model you played, but like Gary said, the first thing I did to my Blues was a new speaker(I went with a Celestion V30) and new JJ's. I believe G favors the Jensen, I went with V30 just because i've like that speaker in every amp I've played.
You should get one, Scott. Man with that sweet new tele, You'd be in tone heaven.

Peace,

Darrin

Close...it's an off-shoot of the HotRod series...weirdly enough.

How the Pro Junior and a HotRod Deville are of the same family is kind of strange to me. It just seems way more vintage by design.
