Quick newbie question about magnet swapping.

So... how do I know which way the magnet goes? LOL.

I have a couple of unmarked A5 magnets that I don't know what way they're oriented.

I haven't swapped magnets a lot of times, but probably around 50% of the time, I end up getting the orientation wrong ant my pickups are out of phase which each other.

Do I need like a compass to know which way they go? I don't have one, but I can get one if there is no cheaper way of knowing which way they go.

I'm afraid of letting them touch because I've read they can get degaussed this way?

Halp!

I believe Duncans have a colored marker on the edge of north.
Otherwise, don't completely remove the original magnet, just slide it partway out and test which orientation the new magnet is attracted to. Those would be the opposite poles.
Forcing two magnets that are repelling would degauss them.
