Quick opinion?

I am selling my spare Zoom G5 on craigslist and was asking $150 (only paid $100 used for it). Had some guy offer me a trade for an Epiphone Les Paul Junior:

One thing I noticed in the headstock pic is that there is a vertical line showing which I’m not sure if it’s a crack or just a reflection of something…

What say you… Trade or pass?

Quick opinion?

I did ask him about it. He just wrote me back saying it was some kind of anomaly. Sent me another pic.

Re: Quick opinion?

I know... a lot of to-do over a cheap guitar, but it also looks kinda fun. I’m becoming more and more of a P-90 fan.

Re: Quick opinion?

It was the rope of the Venetian blind reflecting in the finish. It reflected in the truss cover also. Look closely.

Looks like a good deal. $100 used pedal for a $150 P-90 rocker. Worst case you unload the junior again for $120 and you are up $20.

Ahh... Okay, I can see that. Plus his followup headstock pic looks much better.

I was kinda thinking along the same lines too. It looks like it might be a really fun guitar for very little money. Looks like it could use a bridge upgrade, but that's easy enough.

I gotta go to bed! So I guess I'll sleep on it and may take him up on it in the morning.

Re: Quick opinion?

BriGuy1968,
I would get it fast. Great fun for little money. Check the neck pocket for a clean smooth tight fit, and you can't lose. If you lived near me and didn't want it, I'd buy it off you immediately.

Re: Quick opinion?

The bridge doesn’t look all bad. It’s both compensated and has adjustment screws. I’ve gotten satisfactory intonation on my Melody Makers that just have a straight bar with the adjustment screws. That one is probably fine.

Re: Quick opinion?

The bridge is an old style as the G string is way too sharp for a plain .016 or .017 G string. It is compensated for a wound G string. But a small investment on a replacement would be easy. Like beaubrummels said, even a straight bar would be a big improvement.

Re: Quick opinion?

Well, I did it... and what a great little guitar! I haven’t plugged it in yet (was a little late when I got home) but has great tone and sustain unplugged and I will see how that P-90 sounds tomorrow. It feels great. The guy who had it before had it very nicely set up, complete with a freshly oiled board and new strings (and they’re even .009s!) Hard-pressed to find any dings, scratches, or buckle rash... amazing for a 13-year-old guitar!

I was a little worried about the bridge, but it’s nicely intonated all along the neck. I’m not sure how to feel about it because I might not change anything! [emoji12]

Can't wait to hear the 'plugged in' report. It looks like a fun little guitar.

See?

Re: Quick opinion?

Well, I hooked up the Headrush and played through headphones for a couple hours this morning before everyone got up, and the P-90 sounds sweet and clear like a P-90 should. No scratchiness in the pots too. It’s like this thing is brand new... what a great deal!

It’s my first single pickup guitar and, as a guy who regularly uses his neck pickups, that takes a little getting used to. I was trying to make do with the tone control, which helped, but it doesn’t really give that round neck pickup tone. Still, for anything else this is a great little rocker!

Now I just have to figure out what to name her! [emoji848]

The way to get variety with a single pickup guitar is move your right hand to different spots from the neck to the bridge to change to tone. You can effectively get near-neck tones if you move your right hand.
