Rails style pickups

I just had a few questions about them, are they a true humbucker with two coils? If so, could a pickup be made with two drastically different pickups, and a selector switch, to switch between the two coils and both on? I mean, Could you put something very vintage, with something very hot? Or something light and something heavy, two different of the same style? Etc...

Re: Rails style pickups

Rails style pickups can have one or two blades. They always have two coils and yes, you could make a hybrid. But the small coil means you are already using very thin wire, so the variety is a bit restricted.

As long as it's not a sealed humbucker (like the Dimebucker or Bill Lawrence 500 models), you can make a hybrid. I made a hybrid between a GFS 59 and a Guitarheads MegaMetal (both made by Artec) and it was really cool.
