Raising Telecaster overall action

Do you have to raise the saddles to raise the action or can I raise it but loosening the 4 screws at the bottom of the bridge plate ?

I ask because I don't have a small enough allen key and the overall action needs to be raised for slide. Thanks!

Gotta raise it at the saddles. Those four screws are there to secure the bridge to the body, they have absolutely nothing to do with action.

wow I feel like an idiot, thanks Low fidelity ... Guess I have to go and try to find really small allen keys

Re: Raising Telecaster overall action

If you're really in a pinch, shimming the neck pocket on the neck end with a business card would raise the action a little. You're going to throw off intonation a bit by doing this.

I don't recommend it - just saying it would raise the action.

My feeling by the question you asked is you need to take the guitar to a tech to set up the guitar for a higher action.

No need for highly accurate intonation with slide though? I'd try this method.

Go to a hardware store and buy some allen wrenches...standard if it's MIA or metric if it is MIJ, CIJ, MIM, MIK, etc...

If you have a small local store just take the guitar in to the store and have them find you the correct size allen wrench...you're looking at a few bucks and if you're going to play guitar you need it!!!
