how similar would a bottom randall cab with v30s be to say a marshall 1960 BV?
they both have the same celestion speakers
are bottom cabs
are 4x12 closed back cabs
the randall cab is an XL cab.

Re: randall cabs vs. marshall cabs

Modern marshall??? I wouldnt be surprised if Randall will get better reviews.

Re: randall cabs vs. marshall cabs

i love marshall cabs - my favorite is my 1960BC but I already have a randall 4x12 cab with v30s in it and was thinking it couldnt be too different than a marshall 1960BV. Same speakers, same cab type, etc....just wanted anyone's 2 cents

Re: randall cabs vs. marshall cabs

i have to say that i'm very impressed with marshall cabs. they just sound good. i really don't know how they do it because it's basically a wooden box with some speakers in it, but they just have a quality sound. i've heard some randall amps before and remember thinking that they didn't sound like i like them to, but that may just be personal preference.

to tell you from experience though, in my recent journey to finding a good cabinet for my shiny new head, i've been real impressed with marshall and mesas overall. fender actually has some great sounding cabs too. i wouldn't overlook them.

Re: randall cabs vs. marshall cabs

I don't think I've ever tried the "XL" Randall cabs, but every other randall cab I've had to help lug around felt like it wasnt very solid.

the reason randall amps didnt sound like you wanted was probably because of the amp and not the cabinet. i hold their cabinets in high regard but their amps arent really my thing.

which marshall + mesa cabs did you try? i've always wanted to try a mesa roadster (2 of the 12's are open back, 2 are closed) cabinet.

Re: randall cabs vs. marshall cabs

I used marshall cabs for years but was never totally satisfied with them. I switched to randall and never looked back. I have a 2x12 with vintage 30's and a 4x12 with celestion custom 80's. The Randall has a much tighter bass with an overall huge sound. Highs are nice and bright as well. Exactly what i was looking for.

Hmmm ... What year, what model?

Re: randall cabs vs. marshall cabs

one was a marshall 4x12 it was slightly smaller than a regular sized cab it had celestion G-12 in it i think. hated this cab! not enogh bass and it was built crappy IMOP.

the other was a 1960a much better, but still nothing impressive to me. both would have been around mid to late 90's models. I was never really impressed with the marshal cabs. Mesa is nice, Orange sound big as well. I love v-30's speakers there my fav.

Dude, I have a 1999 1960A JCM900 marshall cab with G-1275Ts that I am not really happy with at all, I am still trying to figure out what would be better to change to V30, with thicker wiring and insulation or just a different cab. So, what randall cab, what model, what year gave you "4x12 with celestion custom 80's. The Randall has a much tighter bass with an overall huge sound. Highs are nice and bright as well. Re: randall cabs vs. marshall cabs

I have the Randall 4x12 Cab R412CXM w/celestion custom 80's.

I think the cab is built like a rock and will last a long time. Im very happy with it. its a G3 series Cab i bought it new earlier this year so its a 2007 model. If you have the $$ go all out and buy a XL cab they have the MTS micing system in the back which is very cool. The custom 80's specs are very close to V30's and side buy side the V30's may have a little more chime, but they sound very close to each other without spending the extra $$ for v30's if you don't have it. This cab may have just been discontinued so whatch for the replacement for 2008. I think I spent around $550 the normally went for $650. You may beable to still get it if you check around. Its not a super expensive priced cab but sounds good. I think Randall has some really good prices for there cabs and there not ridiculous.
