I know he used both a super distortion and a DD does anyone know for sure which tunes on the tribute live CD, he used the duncan loaded guitar?

I thought he used Dimarzios...?

he used dimarzio's only in the one flying V(polka dot)
his white jackson offset V and the second jackson black offset V both had a DD and jazz.
i just need to know on which tunes he used the duncans?
sometimes his tone is much better than other times and i was guessing it was because of the duncans? i would be willing to bet his better tones were with the duncan loaded jacksons

The Super Distortions are pretty distinctive tone wise, the way Randy had his rig EQ'd they sound pretty rough. I Don't Know, Crazy Train, and the solo to Goodbye to Romance was his Les Paul. Suicide Solution, Mr Crowley, No Bone Movies and the heavy parts in Revelation sounds like his V. The only tune that "sounds" like his white Jackson on the first album is Steal Away the Night. On Diary the productio was better and it is harder to tell what is what, I will go out on a limb and say the S.A.T.O. and the heavy parts in Diary of a Madman are Jackson as well as Believer but those are guesses. I read an article back in the 80's about what Randy used and when but I cannot say for sure whether all this is even close to correct.

"believer" has a good tone!
i figured the buzzier tones were the dumarzio

The pictures of his black Les Paul are definately Dimarzios with the hex poles.

He never recorded with the Black Custom as he bought it after both albums were recorded in mid 1981, to my knowledge he only recorded with his cream Custom.

Ahh. If that's the case, then my only guess would be if you hear any tremolo dives or wide vibrato, he's using his white Rhoads model. :D

No wait...I think that was just a hardtail bridge

Wait....

Dammit!!!

His white Jackson had a tremolo bridge, his polka dot V had a tremolo bridge and his black Jackson he got just in time for the start of the Diary Of a Madman tour was a string through body with a TOM I believe.

Randy would pull the string from behind the nut up and down while doing hammer pulls on his non trem non locking nut guitars and sometimes physically bend the entire guitar neck on his Les Pauls with one hand on the headstock and the other on the bottom of the body to get vibrato! Don't try that one at home!!

There was some interview I just read in guitar world (maybe 2 months ago), that he said on Blizzard he used his LP and Flying V with stock pups for all the recording. He did say he used a Dimarzio distortion live etc., but didn't say he used it recording.

The Dimarzio's were in his V.
