I tried the DR coated strings and HATED them! They took FOREVER to stretch out and the sound was lousy. Tried the Snake Oil strings as well and didn't care for them. I had been using D'Addario's for years and just wanted to see what else was out there. I wound up settling on GHS Boomers. Never had any problems with D'Addario's, they are great strings as well. All these fancy, expensive strings have failed to impress me so far.

Thanks for the offer bro. Much appreciated :bigthumb: But I can grab a couple sets if you steer me where to buy them? (I assume they have website?).
No $HIT! Me too :laugh2: And the thing is it's not one set going in and out (so to speak) its: one set is absolutely fantastic, and the next 3 sets are a steaming pile of dog crap (no offense). I cannot even place it to one retailer. I've bought them locally at 2 different shops, as well as MF, M123 and AMS. Perhaps its a humidity problem where and how they're being stored thats messing (most of) them up?
I'm no stellar guitar tech, but I'm fairly competent at putting strings on and getting a decent intonation job done if need be and I'm not having the prob with other strings (ANY other strings). I just don't get it. Maybe the Guitar Gods just don't want me playing DR strings for some reason :laugh2:
Guess I'll try some of these Snake Oils, and I'm gonna try some Dean Markleys on this axe, as I have not yet...if neither of those float my boat, I'll stick to D'addarios.

Locally and online...doesn't seem to matter where I get them. I reccomended them to Erik when I first got them cos my first experience with DR (pure blues) was absolutely fantastic. My second set started giving me some issues, the third set was worse, and then Erik started having the same problems too. :shrug:
Its no big deal, I was just pi$$ed off and ranting. Glad they are working out for some of you folks :bigthumb:

I've been using Daddario strings for over 30 years -- if it ain't broke, don't fix it; and if it is broke put, put on a fresh set of Daddario's. I tried a set of DR strings on one guitar, but wasn't impressed one way or another, so I've stuck with what has worked at a reasonable price. I should probably change strings more often, but the Daddario's seem to last and I'm lazy about it.

You really should try them. I balked at spending so much at first but now they're all I'll use. The Original Nickels are warm and cuddly :13:

Seriously the best strings I have EVER tried...EVER. For a slightly warmer tone, get the Vintage set. For a slightly tighter, focused rock tone, get the Rock set.
I'd order a couple sets of each to see what you like. Each of my guitars likes a different type. However, if forced to choose...Vintage Nickel all the way.
The really cool thing is that he will build you a set of whatever guage you want...for the same price. That should make EVEN YOU happy bro! :laugh2:

I have to concur here. I was a hardcore DR user (hi beam 10's) until I finally broke down and bought some snake oils. I've had the rock set on my Ibanez for at least 3 months and they still sound like the day I put them on. Incredible strings.

When it comes to strings I'm not hard to please really...The DRs were a mess, but all the other strings I've used worked well and I'm sure I could get used to any of them. I'm just trying to find the right "tension" for this guitar cos it's a string-through and I don't have a stop to adjust for tension.
These 9-46 D'addarios are pretty much "there". I thought the 9/11/16 would be too noodle-y, but thats not really the case. On my MIK Deans , they were way too flimsy.
I'll grab some of the Rock sets. I went through a phase of using pure nickel, but I much prefer the tighter/brighter feel/tone (as you mentioned) of nickel plated.
