This is a Tasmanian Myrtle Burl that I have been drying out for the last seven or so years....

It is extremely rare stuff. For a Myrtle to grow a decent burl it has to be old, probably only one in a thousand myrtles actually grow a burl.
The tree that it came from was dated at over 550 years old, This burl would have started out as a wound in the tree more than 200 years ago..Before the white dudes started roaming around..killing sh1t..etc..

the burl in its original slab form cost me nearly 700 bucks seven years ago, and that was from the guy that dragged it out of the forest..

finally its going to be a guitar..

The original burl was quite large, however a lot of it was useless sue to bark inclusions, this is the heart of the burl, bookmatched at 15 mm thick.

I'm speechless...I need to catch my breath.

I sort of got distracted...
also I had to build a whole bunch of Cheese platters and boards for my good lady wife..
The trials of having a wood shop!!!!

will get around to the guitars shortly.. but this is what I have been playing with

I promise to get back to the guitars..

Just as soon as I finish painting the house..........

I remember that watch box you made for your son, I suppose it started something .

You should do truss rod covers like this .

Like the one on the right - detect more than a bit of Mondrian.

Though Mondrian did experiment with Cubism, he sought to go beyond it, eventually calling his style/genre as 'Neoplasticism'. Far more minimalist and rigid than Cubism.

Anyway, impeccable work as usual - now you have another fall-back when guitar making is slow .
