rare srv related speaker question ^^

does anyone have an idea which speaker steve may have had built in his
vibroverb? i've read it was 15" instead of 4 10"
also fender doesn't specify which eminence speaker they've used in their
'64 vibroverb custom.

just interested which speaker may come close.
it'd be a nice try for my bassman -project

cheers

Re: rare srv related speaker question ^^

cheers, mate.

it seems, that this old chassis isn't available anywhere.
are there any equivalents?
i've seen the em commonwealth 15 is an allrounder - go for it or leave it?
there's also a legend model - any other alternatives.

thanks
martin

Re: rare srv related speaker question ^^

Weber high-power series California 15, available in Ceramic or AlNiCo. It's Ted's take on the JBL's of the past. He recommmends it specifically for Vibroverbs.

Re: rare srv related speaker question ^^

Weber California 15" is pretty close to JBL...available with aluminum dome, paper dome, or screen mesh. Or find a used JBL on the 'Bay...

Other 15" worth investigating are the EVM 15L, Jensen C15N/P15N, and any Celestion G15's you can find...

Re: rare srv related speaker question ^^

will a 15 inch speaker give a bigger bottom end sound?

if the rest of the variables are the same the most of the time yes...

If you had 2 ceramic magnet speakers with the same weight ceramic magnet, the same size voice coil, same type of basket, etc but one was a 12 and the other a 15 the 15 would have more or atleast a "stronger" bottom end...

Re: rare srv related speaker question ^^

Like TGWIF said, with all else being equal, the 15 will have a stronget bottom end.

Another difference to remember - the 15 will tend to "beam" more than a 12, so the difference between on-axis and off-axis tone and volume will be greater. As long as you're ordering a speaker from Weber, I strongly suggest ordering one of their Beam Blockers, too. They're not expensive and it's likely to make a big improvement in sound. Try your Cali both with and without the BB and let us know how you like it.

Re: rare srv related speaker question ^^

hmm, the 15" with tighter bottom end sounds like an overkill to me.
despite the faster break in interests me a lot, i don't know if i'm gonna
buy the alnico. i'm definately gonna buy a cali 15 and a beam blocker too.
i'll not forget to post the report, but may take a while, due to i build the
top first.

cheers
