Rarest guitars i have had in my hands are

1-Jimi Hendrix's Flying V from the Isle Of Wight
2-one of Jeff Becks early 50's Esquires
3-2 acoustics belonging to Pete Townshend

I got to hold them at the Gard Rock in London England.... had my photo taken with all of them.....

At a vintage guitar show i got to play a baddly beat up 59 Les Paul...

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

rarest guitars I've ever held/played were a Fender No'caster and Eric Clapton's "Brownie"...

the nocaster was owned by a tourist who came through town, and he let me use it for the first set of a gig one night.

"Brownie" was part of an exhibit at the called the "sweet home chicago" exhibit that showed here at our delta blues museum..I wasn't supposed to be able to touch it, but know the curator of the museum fairly well and got the hook up :)

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

i didn't play anything rare.
the most expensive was some nice gibby lp with oil finish at my musicstore.

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

The rarest, and likely the most expensive, that I've played is probably Luke's ES-330.

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

The rareset guitar was the Teardrop D'Angelico which was in Scott Chinery's collection. The guitar now resides in the Smithsonian musem in DC. As I remember it it needed some attention. The pickguard was curling and it hadn't been played in a while. Too bad I did not have a camera it would have been cool to have a pic. of me playing it. I believe it is valued at over a million dollars. I got to play it because I was a volunteer security person at a vintage guitar show and I walked over and was asking questions about it. The guy asked me if I would like to play it.:fingersx:

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

I've played a few rare things...54 oxblood (like Jeff Becks) & 57 paula. Sev early 60s LP/SGs and 335s. Some late 50s strats (dont remember the years).

My dad's guitar was the first thing I ever played a note on..ES150 w/ a single dog-ear. My brother has it now I think. Hope that jerk didn't sell it.

Of what I owned...hmm..for value..prolly my 1976 Korina Explorer (my first good guitar), and my mid 70s deluxe would command the most $ if I still had 'em. I had a cool custom shop standard Les Paul too...all LP Custom appointments and trim...but traps and binding like a Standard. I've never seen one exactly like it. Gibson apparently did a production limited run of "custom color" standards in the early 90s and it was similar to those. But mine was a mid 80s and had a few differences form the custom color runs models I've seen online. REALLY wish I had that one back. weighed a ton, but man did it play like butta and sing.

I suspect my early 80s BC Rich Bi$ch would be worth some bucks too.

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

The most expensive, and rarest that I've played was a 1930's Martin D-18. Even with old rusty strings it sang like a mofo. New strings made it even better. It belongs to my old landlord out in CA. What a gem. He knew what he had.

In the electric world, Gibby LP Customs, a Zakk Wylde Gibby and a few Custom Shop Fenders.

None of my guitars are expensive but I like to believe my NYC graphic Kramer is rare. I've only seen one other NYC paintjob and it's not even the same as mine.

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

Probably Seymour's Tele-Gib that he brought to UGD UK. That was pretty mad.

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

Probably my friend's 60's Rick 12 string, a 360 WB. They go for 35 Gs.

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

I came within 2 feet of Bonnie Raitt's strat, but I guess technically, didn't play it... Or even touch it, for that matter.

1930 National style O, and a 1934 Duolian. Also played one of the first fender custom shops to be made into a closet classic (by Cunetto, who almost exclusively did relic jobs).

I was really close to a National Dan (round neck german silver tricone) which my dad brought home on day (worth about $20000, I believe).

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

I don't know if any of you know Selena( mexican tejano singer, dead), but I got to play the nylon string guitar she played at her famous performance at the alamodome.

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

1932 National resonator.
1957 LP with two P-90, all black and was light as a feather.
1958 TV LP with two cream P-90's...wow
1954 Strat, all original, everything right down to the frets...religious experience.
1962 Gibson Johnny Smith
Early 1951 Broadcaster...also a religious experience:D
Those are some of the most memorable ones.

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

I played one of Hank Williams Sr.'s acoustic guitars. Those Martins go for about $250,000 (I think...maybe more) as is, but since it was ole Hank's....I'd say it's rather priceless.

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

*blinks*

Man....I aint' played ****!

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

In th 90's, i had a serious hard-on for archtops. (still do sorta) I used to go to a lot of shows &, & dealers. I've played a butt load of D'Angelico's, D'Aquisto's, Strombergs, etc.

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

Most valuable, it was either a 58 or 59 LP. I was terrified of it.

Most rare- the 1931-ish Martin C-2 archtop with the round sound hole. I think there were something like 20 of them made. It wasn't all that cool.

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

my partner in building guitars worked at rudys for years, not sure exactly what years but he knows his stuff.

a friend of mine says he played guitar for selena until she died. hes a good player but i have no idea if its true or not

the rarest guitar i own is a one of a kinda '59 guild thinline hollowbody, i say one of a kind because it has features from a few models but none of the models had all the same stuff as this one, when i talked to a guy who worked for guild in jersey he vaguely remembered the guitar being a one off for someone which as far as i know is pretty rare for guild at that time.

the most expensive ive played is a '59 les paul
ive played a late 1870's o martin, a '30 om, a '39 d45 and a bunch of other cool rare guitars

Re: Rarest guitar you've played? Most expensive?

i played a 1953 (yes 53) strat prototype that had just come from Leo himself who verified it was indeed the prototype for the strat. very crude, and about the worst playing guitar you'd ever pick up. looked like the neck pocket was chiseled by hand, and the neck was an entire baseball bat.

ive played a few early 50's fenders and most of them sucked, at least as far as playing goes. i played a broadcaster without a trussrod that the guy wanted 30k for that was completely unplayable. most of those same guitars sounded great, but if ya cant play it what good is it except as wall art
