Rat Rod Warlock bass

My buddy Raven annihilated his tried and true early 80's US BC Rich Warlock bass about 8 years ago and it has been sitting it's case ever since. Well I decided it was about time to repair it and hot rod it a bit during it's resurrection. Since it was pretty rough, like new restoration wasn't really an issue. I was planning on doing something a little fancier at first but since I really have an eye for old Model T rat rods lately I decided to give this the same treatment.

Had to repair the massive crack in the neck and a crack in the body where the tone knob broke through, a few other bits of body damage, replace the tuners, rewire, and then season to taste. I found some cool q-knobs with pirate skulls and I threw on some pins using HOK urethane enamel. After the body was painted black again I tried gold leafing but that didn't work out so I ended up distressing the paint with a palm sander going through to the wood in some places then I striped it and it got a few shot of clear over it. The clear reacted with the urethanes a bit but that just added to the beaten, battered look. To make it a bit prettier we added a 12th fret inlay with its name "Morticia" engraved in the MOPI think it came out pretty cool!

I got a bunch of help from Cris Mirabella and Bludave helped epoxy and clamp the neck back together. It plays and sounds as good as ever!

Re: Rat Rod Warlock bass

i was waiting to see this, it came out sweet. it looks like an old "rat rod" for sure, the stripes look great!!! nice work!! oh a bit OT but i talked to Cris via e-mail and he said he can help me out with the setups and that he would call me about it but no word from him yet. i've got 3 guitars that are a mess for some reason with fret buzz i can't fix :(

Sweet coffin case!

We got matching Coffin Cases, the Darkline series which is an ATA rated flight case. They are great! MY LP Standard flew back and forth to Tampa this weekend in mine without an issue. For the money they are a great deal IMO Cost $129, plenty of padding, pretty well made considering they are Chinese built and they definitely are cool. It was a blast walking through the airport with them, we got some strange looks, well stranger than normal anyway. :laugh2: Only problem I had was convincing my singer he wasn't allowed to sleep in them.

hahaha that's great...my old bass player tried to get in mine at rehersal once...that was a sight lol....my darkline flight case is my main case for my strat style guitars. i love that thing i could throw it down a flight of stairs and my guitar would be ok. i have my eye on a new all metal case (with iron crosses all over it) made by the same "coffin" people if i'm not mistaken.

Re: Rat Rod Warlock bass

Yeah it's called the Black Cross case. Let me know how you like it I am thinking of getting one of those as well.

Re: Rat Rod Warlock bass

this rocks! Q Parts make some of the coolest looking knobs and straplocks around at the moment.

Re: Rat Rod Warlock bass

Glad you guys liked it.

I need to get a MoonEyes Iron Cross decal for it.

To make it even better I got a slide that Mick Mars gave to him as a thank you. Man Mick has some tiny fingers!
