Re: Rate the new Marshalls please!

hey edgecrusher go to sweetwater.com look up the dsl100 there is a view of the back panel and if you zoom in under the marshall logo it states that it made in Vietnam. the only ones I have seen that still say made in England are the high end amps like the reporductions of the jcm series, the new jtms and their new flagship jvms. just wanted to let you know

A 2009 DSL100 I obtained recently.

Re: Rate the new Marshalls please!

OP, look at Ceriatone.

They have a lot of different models, from 18W versions all the way to huge 100W+ heads. Even their JTM 45's come with loops, and they are often in a head format, meaning you can run the correct tubes for vintage tones if that is of interest.

I'm not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure the DSLs marked 'JCM 2000 Dual Super Lead' on the front panel are made in England, while the newer ones marked 'DSL 100H' are made in Asia.

Re: Rate the new Marshalls please!

yes the older ones were made in England but not the new ones. I don't know when they switched but they did might have been as late as last year. little fact that some may not know is all the blackstars are made in the east, even the series ones, which really shocked me. you wind up paying 1799 for a 100 watt head made in china, kinda sucks really. don't get me wrong guys im not trying to put marshall down I have the JVM205H and it is awesome. just trying to let everyone know check the back panel before you buy. my friend has had problems with a lot of the new DSL's he has sold. he stopped carrying them.

That seems to be the case as far as I can see.

Re: Rate the new Marshalls please!

Is it handwired?
Nope?
It doesn't matter in which country it is assembled if it is PCB?

Actuall assembly can be done by anyone who can use a screwdriver (or is that mostly automated as well???)

Back to this tired argument... Can you tell me of a single time when a company has moved their factories to the east and quality and reputation were maintained?

Epiphone. Their Chinese factory is producing better goods than the Korean one did.

The simple truth is that China = lower production costs. Sometimes they also manage to engineer a better product to come out of the factories than before.

There was a video about their facility there. I think it matters less where the stuff is made and more about the quality of materials and overall QC. If the procedures are place to guarantee a good product along the price point, you'll always know what you'll be getting.

Now yes.. but the reputation tanked when gibson first moved production there and you cannot say the reputation now exceeds what it was when it was american made

Re: Rate the new Marshalls please!

Charvel to Japan?

Not even close dude... What reputation did charvel have before they became a japanese company? They were a low volume custom shop that jackson moved overseas to produce their bolt ons... in the 80's those Charvels had the reputation of being Ok but nothing like the california made ones...

Re: Rate the new Marshalls please!

I was not alive the last time Epiphone had a good reputation. The bad reputation is slightly less warranted under further scrutiny now.

Ive been in the Qingdao facility when I lived in china... I can say from seeing it first hand that the strong presence of american managers at that facility has a lot to do with the quality. Their rejection piles are huge, which is good cause it means they care what goes out the door

Though I do believe and agree in the basic premise of what your saying but this is where the theory goes awry... When a move is made to a factory that offers cheaper labor they arent just looking to cut cost on the labor but also materials. You cannot tell me that they are shipping dagnall transformers from england to install in chinese made marshalls. They are cutting cost anywhere they can find it... I find the new tolex on the JCM800 and 900 reissues to be gross. It feels more like plastic than it does vinyl

It is possible for a factory to relocate to the east and maintain the quality of materials used... but ive never seen a company do it.

That's went I mentioned the quality of materials, if that is maintained, good production can be had pretty much anywhere people can be trained. But as you said, often the materials suffer with the cut in labor cost as well.
