Re: Re-Creating A Legend: The Eric Clapton Crossroads Gibson 335
when Clapton did his "From the Cradle" ("blues") tour, I saw him twice -- once at the LA Forum, then a couple nights later at the House of Blues in Hollywood.
I sincerely believe that the demand for 335s went up after that tour, since he was playing the old red one on that tour. I think the custom made tweed twins he used led directly to the Fender hand-wired version.
incidently, at House of Blues, I sat right up front, and watched him tear it up on the 335 on "I'm Tore Down". Well ... that song, and everything else.
I was pretty surprised that he auctioned that one off, since he'd had it quite a while -- at least since Cream.

This is not helping my 335 GAS!
From the Cradle was the last great Clapton tone IMHO...he had such a cool tone on that tour with the 335 and those tweed Twins...Im with you Curly, I bet that tour sold a LOT of 335's and 50 watt twins!
I have seen footage of Eric using that same 335 wiht the Yardbirds somewhere...like you I was really surprised he let that one go!

Re: Re-Creating A Legend: The Eric Clapton Crossroads Gibson 335
clapton still played a strat a lot on the from the cradle tour. i think he was still using the lace sensor set up. i always thought that sounded so much better than the fender noiseless singles he switched too
Re: Re-Creating A Legend: The Eric Clapton Crossroads Gibson 335
I watched the original video of the Crossroads ES-335 being built at Gibson and 90% of the construction happened right alongside the regular production 335's... They were paying more attention to the Hare Krishna sticker repro details than the tonal aspects of the guitar. Totally not worth the big coin they were asking for these imho..:naughty::naughty:

those guitars, at least the ones i tried, were crazy good instruments. nicest 335 that ive played but still thats a lot of money for a copy of someone elses guitar.
