Re-Loading & Possibly Re-Wiring 2X12 Guitar Cab, SERIES vs PARALLEL OPINIONS...

My 2X12 was originally loaded with two 8ohm Seventy/80's and wired in series for a total impedance load of 16ohms. The speakers were garbage so I replaced them with what i had on hand, in this case a 16ohm Creamback and a 16ohm Vintage-30. Obviously when I replaced the speakers i had to change the wiring around to parallel so I would end up with a 8ohm cabinet when I was done?

The cabinet has suited my needs just fine until recently but now I'm running a Peavy Valveking ii 100W head through it and I just got my hands on some more 8ohm Celestion's. Now that I'm pushing a different amp through it I'm thinking I'd like to put the 16ohm Creamback back into my DSL40 and then put two 8ohm Vintage-30's in the 2X12 & take it back to series wiring and 16ohms.

In order to get all this done I'm going to have to unload the two 16ohm speakers that are in my 2x12, pull my 8ohm V-30 from the DSL, combine it with the new V-30 I just got this morning, pull the 8ohm Greenback from my 1X12, and shuffle a whole butt load of speakers around. There's also another 2X12 in the equation but I'm not 100% sure I'm going to be delving into that this afternoon as well?

Anyway, I'm planning on having two 8ohm V-30's in my 2X12, putting the 16ohm Creamback or 16ohm V-30 into the DSL, & replace the 8Ohm Greenback in my 1x12 with whichever 16ohm speaker is leftover.

That's all well and good but I'm just a little bit curious about what wiring method is better for a 100W valve amp or if there's any real difference at all between the two? Please feel free to let me know what you would do given my predicament, & why...

Thanks!!!!

I would wire it for 16 ohms. From a practical point, it's much easier to use with another 16 ohm cab, hard to use 2 4 ohm cabs without some custom cable to put them in series.

16 ohm supposedly sounds better too, I can't speak to that personally, I don't think I've ever used a 4 ohm cab. FWIW, the 16 ohm tap on the output transformer uses more windings (I think I have that right).
