re-potting plated SD humbuckers

Hi there! I've got a question concerning the re-potting of my nickel plated APH 1B Bridge pickup. Since I had been having a lot of problems with microphonics, I decided it might be a good idea to get the pickup repotted. Thinking it was a more or less standard procedure, but not feeling like doing it myself, I sent my guitar in to my local music shop. However after a month (!) I got a reply from them saying that the pickup could not be easily re-potted due to the fact that the coils were enclosed in some kind of plastic beneath the cover and that it wouldn't make sense to go through the hassle, since it would probably cost me more than getting a brand new PUP. Anyway, I had them send me the guitar back (they still charged me 35 Euro, just for having looked at it!), hoping that there still might be a chance of re-potting it at home on my own. Bottom line is: I really want to keep the pickup!!

So, after having looked at it myself I can confirm that there seems to be some kind of orange plastic cover around the coils and I was just hoping aomebody could give me some information on whether this is actually an impediment for re-potting and if not, whether the procedure of repotting is the same as with any other standard, plated pickup.

I'd really appreciate any kind of advice in the matter!

Best Regards,

David

Hi David, how's it going?

That amber tape around the bobbins protects them, but we can still re-pot the pickup. Shoot me a private message.
