Really old Strat-The prototype

Re: Really old Strat-The prototype

Every single time I see you post I know it's gonna involve something about that sweet guitar.

Very interesting and well written story. Must be an awesome feeling just to hold and play that guitar. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to you all. It was quite a task for a non computer guy like me but I think it turned out well. There are probably a few things I might add and some stuff that need editing but overall it get the story out pretty clear.

Jerry,

If you can (hell, enlist a young person to help with this on the YouTube end), PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE... we'd love to know what this strat sounds like! Even if it's only the body that's left, there's got to be an INCREDIBLE amount of magic to that guitar.

Great story... and I may be able to dig some more info up for you. Back in Amsterdam, NY used to be a music shop called Morrison & Putnam I believe (my memory is hazy). The owner was a lifelong friend of Leo's, in fact they collaborated on a few projects and I believe this Strat was one of them. The owner passed away back in the 80s but I think his son is still in the area and if he is, I will check and see if there is any logged info. He used to tell me stories about Leo, some not so nice and others very cool. Leo was a complicated man and he was a cheapskate and terrible to work with at times but as history has shown, it does not take the best quality to assemble an awesome instrument. I will be in touch by PM if I can find out any additional info and also if there is a store of vintage Fender parts to be had. I know for a fact that he had a ton of 50s and 60s parts boxes. That stuff never interested me back then since my first real guitar was a Les Paul Black Beauty (which incidentally came from Morrison Music in 1979)
