Re: Really want a fretless with a metal fingerboard.
I've got a fretless neck; I took the frets out of a Snow neck . Snow was a company owned by Robert Godin way back when he was still making bolt-on Normans and hadn't jumped into the electric business , other than making after-market necks.
This particular neck I got for next to nothing because it had a very slight twist, which is no issue at all on a fretless. I glued tiny strips of maple in the slots where the frets used to live and smoothed it right down, although it didn't take too much work since it's an ebony board.
The guitar is very fun to play - very useful in those rare instances when you want to do something completely unique. With an Ebow it's a whole new instrument. The maple lines make it very easy to hit the notes almost spot-on, and the only real learning curve is remembering to slide, instead of bend. Guitar fetish is where I would look if I was thinking of acquiring a cheap neck to experiment with before spending a heap of cash; I think some of their factory buy-out necks are already fretless last time I looked ....
