Reamping with only a DI

The bassist in our band picked up a Behringer DI600P yesterday and because we've been doing some recording lately, I was thinking about reamping back into my Mark IV just so I could play with mic placement, room mics and all that.

I do not have the funds right now to drop on a real reamp box, so this was going to be a fun experiment until I can get one, if I really do need one at all.

Some Google-Fu yielded information about a "reverse-DI" technique for reamping that was in the Radial ProDI manual. It said to connect the mixer out to the XLR output of the DI, then connect a standard guitar cable from the input on the DI to the input of the amp.

Apparently this works, but has anyone ever tried it before? For that matter have you had success reamping at all without a reamp box?

Re: Reamping with only a DI

i have no experience with it, but ive heard it works as well

A sound tech friend of mine also told me that I could reamp by taking the recorded DI signal in Reaper, and running it through a mixer out right into the amp's input, padding it of course.

Any other thoughts on this?

This is precisely where the term "re-amping" began. Try it.

Re: Reamping with only a DI

The DI solution is a better one; line level outputs will have an impedance mismatch with the input of your guitar amp; level will be an issue, too. You can get a Radial passive reamp for $100 brand new; much less if you find a used one. I had 2 of em, and sold one on Ebay for only $50, NIB. I use the other one like it's going out of style! :)
