Reccomend me an EQ pedal.

Is there a forum favorite? Does it matter heavily what I'm playing through what?

I think I just want some of your opinions here.

Thanks.

Re: Reccomend me an EQ pedal.

Been super happy with my Boss Ge-7 once I gave it the ol Monte Allums mod. Been eyeing the MXR one for awhile but just don't need it yet hah

Re: Reccomend me an EQ pedal.

I used the Boss 7 band for a while and it works, but adds noise. Apparently modded it is much better about that though. But after using the MXR 10 band long enough, I have to say its the best out there. Dont bother with anything else and just get the MXR.

Re: Reccomend me an EQ pedal.

MXR 10 Band. I've used both, and I can say that the 7 band is not nearly as good as the 10 band. Plus on Musicians Friend, the 10 Band only costs $10 more than the 7 Band.

GE-7. No complaints except the rubber heads get lost too easily.

Re: Reccomend me an EQ pedal.

MXR 10 band. Ton of range, and IMO doesn't color your sound like the Boss GE-7.

Besides that, it has some helpful EQ settings in the manual

Re: Reccomend me an EQ pedal.

Any word on the mxr 6 band?

the 6 band is good, but is much more limited on what it can do. The reason I am going to say the 10 band is worth the extra money is not because of the 4 extra bands, but because of the gain and volume slider. I find myself using the volume and gain slider a lot. If the 6 band had that it would be a better value.

Re: Reccomend me an EQ pedal.

What exactly do you want to do with this EQ befoer I recommend, and where do you think it might go in thew chain?

I might say parametric, Boss, MXR, modded, rack, wah...who knows. I might even say compressor instead....

Amp and other pedal info appreciated as well. But can't hate on the MXR 10.

Re: Reccomend me an EQ pedal.

What exactly do you want to do with this EQ

I'm planning on using it by itself with an orange dark terror. The amp sounds amazing to me but leaves a bit to be desired in the tweak ability. Mainly it seems to be lacking in the highs unless you enjoy a deep scoop. I eventually plan on getting a distortion pedal for it so I can use clean and dirt. But for now I just want an eq to shape the tone a bit better.

Probably run a noise gate as well (mxr noise clamp)

Re: Reccomend me an EQ pedal.

Does that amp have effects loop? I've found that mxr sounds better thru the loop of my amp.

any EQ will sound much different in the loop...and to many people it's more useful because it shapes the distortion rather than shaping your basic guitar sound before it hits the amp

Re: Reccomend me an EQ pedal.

Guitar > Distortion > Noise > Amp > EQ

or

Guitar > Distortion > Amp > EQ > Noise

Your call. Don'rt forget, one way to boost highs without adding noise is to CUT the bass miss. Often overlooked as not being "manly"
