Re: Recomendation for Jackson DXMG Guitar!
I'd like to say HI to all members and SD maniacs. Im entering the world of duncans and investing in two-humb set in my Jackson DXMG which currently runs on stock EMG-HZ.
I've read tons of interesting stuff in this forum and really appreciate all the info I obtained; however, being still undecided, I'd like to make sure if I chose a set that would work flawless.
My musical interests are quite versatile: glam metal, jazz, thrash, funky, prog rock, blues.
Bridge pickup would be responsible for hair metal/oldskool thrash/prog rock riffing and excessive soloing. . I also dig classic hard rock sounds, but I know I can’t have everything. The bridge (obviously split) should provide great clean sounds, allow to play decent funky and bluesy stuff when single coiled. It would be great to get as close as possible to the funky sound of single coil strats.
Call me an idiot, but right now I am not sure about the wood used in my Jack Dinky… Knowing almost nothing about guitars, I bought it around 2005 ‘cause it was a Jackson and had a Floyd (later swapped the stock licensed tremolo for original Schaller). I didn’t put any attention to the wood. I’ve been aware of the fact that there were alder and basswood DXMG’s, seen many confusing info on the net (guitar shops, forums) I just didn’t care for wood as I was learning basics . All these years I thought that it's made of basswood (couple years ago a luthier who swapped the tremolo bridge said that), that’s why I spent days reading this forum in order to pick an ideal one for basswood. Not an easy task.
I chose Tb-5 Custom or PATB2 for bridge + Sh-10 Full Shred or Screaming Demon or PATB1n for neck. Shall I expect any mounting difficulties with the Parallel Axis models? I was more into Tb-5+Sh-10 because of the accessibility.
This is an Japanese DXMG (serial no. 9704211) The "finish/playability check" flyer with the workers signature dates 24/7/2001. As I recently discovered, forums and wiki says that pre-2006 DXMG’s are made of alder, so it was quite a bombshell for me! Is there anyone to confirm it? How to be 100% sure?
Now when the guitar (hopefully) turned to be alder body, I gotta start all over again. Shall I begin my Duncan story with a classic TB-4+SH-2 set or go further? I’m totally puzzled right now, but I assume that alder body gives more possibilities. What about the RTM DeMartini signature pup. Is it really worth its price?
Rest of the gear would be Peavey Classic 30 tube combo + Dunlop mxr gt-od (works fine, even on my EMG-HZ which are in fact pretty good sounding, but lacking “something”)
Thanks in advance for all suggestions!
