Recommend a 1x12 cab

So I'm now thinking of trying the Crate Power Block as an amp in conjunction with my Pod XT. I'd love to have a 4x12 or a 2x12, but I can't justify the size or expense right now. What I need is a decent 1x12 that won't sound like crap, and won't break my back.

The PowerBlock runs 8 ohms mono or 4 ohms stereo. I may want to do a stereo rig someday, so it would be nice to have a cab that is 4/8.

I'm currently thinking the Traynor 1x12 extension cabs would be a good match.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

EDIT: I also noticed that Crate makes a matching 1x12. Anyone seen or tried one?

Re: Recommend a 1x12 cab

My main cab for clubs with a 5150 head has been a Marshall 1912 1x12.... it has been a great cab for that head... It has a 150 watt speaker which may or may not be too powerful for your Crate set up.... That cab i snagged for $200 new from a large Toronto music chain that just wanted rid of it! Thinking back i should of bought the other one that was sitting there as a spare..... I've really pushed that speaker to the limits with various heads and it still works 10 years later as well as it should....

Besides that my only other 1x12 is a Peavey Classic series in Tweed.... 16 ohm... i use it either with my Classic 50 head or with my C30 combo....

Re: Recommend a 1x12 cab

I've have the Traynor 1X12 extension cab (well, the wine red one that comes with a V30). I didn't like the sound of the Traynor speakers that come in their standard amps (I think they were eminence redcoats) but the v30 sounds great in the little red cab. It is a closed back cab, so it sounds a little more bassy than an open back and is more directional.

Well apparently the power rating on the Traynor cabs is a paltry 40 watts. No go there.

That's for the standard ones . . . the wine red ones that I was talking about are using celestion v30s which are rated to 60w

Re: Recommend a 1x12 cab

I have one of those Marshall open back cabs that they made in the mid 90's. I found it at a shop without a speaker. I put an 80 watt Celestion Classic Lead in it. Sounds great. Those are really nice open back 1-12 cabs.

I've seen other 1-12 cabs by Mesa Boogie, etc. They look nice and portable, but I can't comment on the sound. I haven't tried them.

The PowerBlock puts out like 400 watts, doesn't it? Not that you'd have to trun it up past 2 at club gigs. The speaker in my Marshall cab is rated 80 watts. I was running a Marshall 20/20 power amp into it (20 watts a side), and never turned that up past 4 at club gigs.
