Recommend a warm thick high output pickup

I have four mid line ibanez RG's and a Jackson SL2. They play great but sound like crap. I have three EVH Wolfgangs that sound awesome, warm & thick. I tried many different pickups in the ibanez and Jackson guitars - a Seymore Ducan JB & Custom Custom, a Dimarzio Evolution, Super Distortion, Tone Zone and X2n and they all sound like crap. The Tone Zone sounds like low gain crap . The is a mid treble nasaly sound the sounds just terrible with all of these pickups (or is it the guitars???). What do I need to do to make them sound good?

Any ideas on what pickups will sound best in these guitars. I have a 93' RG770 with a Super Distortion that sounds perfect, but I think Dimarzio changed the pickup design since then as the resistance is different.

HELP!!!

The Dimarzio Breed has a nice thick sound in bolt-on neck, locking trem bridges. The Custom Custom usualy works pretty well as long as you don't need tight bass response. But it is very sensitive to pickup height and it takes a while to dial it in just right.

Do you really thought the pickup makes the sound of a guitar???
I mean the pickup just assigns the sound it gets from the guitar. It can make some nuances in your sound but if you don't like the basic sound of a guitar you shouldn't buy it. A pickup can not change the basic sound of a guitar.
You tried 7 different (very good) pickups and still don't understand that the pickup can not completely change the sound of a guitar.
In my opinion you should sell the guitars because I think no pickup of the world can make them sound from crap to awesome.

Well, I didn't buy them all at once and taste changes over time. One of them sounds perfect with a super distortion so that is why changing the pickups should do the same thing with the newer ibanez guitars, right? I am considering selling them...

I absolutely meant no offense!
But i really recommend to sell them instead of spending your money for pickups...

Well, you definitely have some great amps, so that's not the problem.

My honest opinion is that you should have a Spring cleaning sale, and condense a few of your 'lesser guitars' into 1 guitar that completely kicks butt.....like a Suhr, Anderson, G&L Legacy or ASAT Deluxe, Wayne, Grosh, or Gibson.

I've found one interesting thing by experimenting. I don't normally like Gibson 498T's in my LP's, so I toss them in my box of pickups. On light basswood guitars, I found I didn't like almost any Duncan, then decided to try pickups like 498T's or Burstbuckers in those types of guitars, and voila....what sounded too harsh in a Gibson gave the perfect character to the shred stick type guitars. If you have any old Gibson pickups sitting around, try those.

Ibanez RG's are one of the thinnest sounding guitars out there, they'll even make an old Mosrite sound good! Sell 'em!

How is the resistance different? As far as I know the design didnt change.

I suppose you could try an invader. Certainly the most bass heavy pickup SD makes. Or maybe a paralell axis trembucker.

+1.. Warm + Thick + High output describes the SH-8 Invader to a t ;)

Invader seems to be your only choice if not even the Tone Zone is right for you.

I put a Metal Live Wire in a PLYWOOD Baby Z copy and it sounds GREAT!!! hahaha! Imagine that! It's true!

+ 1 for the invader! Great pickup for thin guitars. If that too does not work, I'd sell that guitar. ;)

I've had both a JB Trembucker and a Screamin' Demon Trembucker in my 1991 Ibanez RG550 and they both sounded good. The JB was warmer and thicker than the Demon, but didn't have the low-end tightness and "chug" of the Demon. Both had plenty of highs, but not piercing, so I can't complain about either. Did you work with the pickup height at all when you tried the JB? It worked well in mine about 4mm from the strings when held at 24th fret. I also had 500kohm volume and tone controls in use. May want to check your wiring too if none of those pickups in your list were warm, thick, and high output on those guitars. About the only thing left in the Dimarzio line for you to try is the Megadrive. I've heard good things about them too, but I've had no experience personally. Hope this helps. :fingersx:
