Horizon has good bang for the buck. I have a couple of Spectraflex guitar cables with the cloth covering, they look like the old power cord on a toaster or iron and I've used them for over ten years and they are still quiet. I don't know if they still make them or not but they are great cables.

My preference in cables has to do with dependability. Many of the "less expensive" cables are made inferior to the better more expensive cables. Is there a sonic difference? Yes I believe there is, but a small difference. The main reason on why I use George L is if the cable breaks(which has never happened in 6 years I have been using them) I can cut it an reconnect it in between songs.

...and exactly what sort of theatrics do you do on stage that would cause the sort of damage that a connector cable to break?

I don't doubt that cables break. But let's be fair....for the money you throw into George L's you can certainly afford a few backups and still come out under budget.
