Recommend H-S-H configuration for Fender Stratocaster

Hello,

I need an advise to replace my Fender Stratocaster’s pickups. I have an Alder body and maple neck 3 tone sunburst USA stratocaster. Actually, I have 2 strats more and I want my sunburst strat as a heavy rock machine. Current pickup configuration is Dimarzio injector in the bridge, area 58 in the middle and injector in the neck position. It's time to go for Seymour Duncan...:nervous:

Firstly I will replace my pickguard to H-S-H configuration instead of s-s-s. I like to play similar like Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Glenn Hughes.

I want to share my opnion with you about new configuration….

Bridge: Seymour Duncan Custom Custom

Middle: Seymour Duncan SSL-5

Neck: Seymour Duncan SH1-N '59

Of course I will change my volüme pot to 500K. Do you recommend me to change tone pots ?

What would you recommend me alternative H-S-H configuration ?

Thanks in advance…

what about SD screamin demon in the neck and JB bridge.. (neck rhytm and clean,JB if you need some balls, screamn solo).. well if you don't use the out phase middle sound you might like to change the tone too I suppose (isn't higher rating pots increases hi end?) to get the most of the hum.

If you're going to play Maiden get the Dimarzio Super D for the bridge, PAF PRO for the neck......

Judging from your handle, "Rising Force," I think you would like Duncan's YJM series. Yngwie does. :kabong:

I used the Jazz/SC/JB configuration for a while and I really liked it. Jazz is amazing nice humbucker for clean tones, roll back the tone and you get a super Jazz tone, put it under lots of distortion and still very articulated for nice soloing, and split mode is nice. I tried that only with 500k so I can not tell how much keeping your existing 250k pots could "change it" but it seems to be a general sense out there that HB+500k is the way to go but I don't know how that can "change" the SSL-5. By the way I was using push-pull tone pot and only one tone pot so I placed a switch in the last tone pot position, was was able to do 5 way switching with autoplit to get more straty quack or put the bridge in paralel with neck to some how emulate the in between position of tipical HH guitars wich I actually liked from that combo.

On the other hand, as dotsdad said, YJM Fury can be good option unless you want a full sized HB in the neck. I am currently using that fury with ssl-1 middle and 250k pots. Those match nice with my JB (no tone pot for bridge actually) , I get some nice quack and no hum in the neck that matches well with JB's output, metal riffs with neo-classical soloing O_o .

The SSL-5 only makes sense as a centre pickup if you are going to adjust it very low. Otherwise, it is going to overpower the SH-1 when the two are combined. I suggest the SSL-2 or one of the Stack models.

As a left field suggestion, you could turn your Stratocaster into a Heavy Rock beast without changing pickguards. A set of red/silver/blue Lace Sensor pickups will do the trick. The usual complaint that these pickups do not sound particularly "Stratty" is not going to bother you.

If you don't feel the need to have the word Fender on your sensors, Lace Music make them in about nine different versions nowadays.
