Recommend me a boost

Re: Recommend me a boost

:eek13: Err, yeah, ok. Their circuit design is identical with not much difference in part values between the two. Theoretically, they do do the same thing. They just sound different. An SD-1 can be modded to 808 specs pretty easily. The biggest difference though will be the change of the clipping from assymetrical to symetrical. Assymetrical to my ears sounds more natural.

I've tried em side by side (used for boosting an already high gain amp for more clarity) - the SD-1 has a cheaper sound overall, very solid state, artificial high end, and a weird high end frequency. The TS has a bass cut, mid boost, and overall smoothing quality to the high end. Weren't that similar to me.

Re: Recommend me a boost

What I don't like about the TS series is the massive bass cut and the mid hump. I've got plenty of mids already and don't need any more...LOL. The input cap can be changed easily enough to allow more bass through.

I don't hear those things you describe in the SD-1 and I've been using one for years. Granted, it's modded now but it was stock up until a few years ago. I've got another stock one laying around but use that one for more for a comparison of modded vs. stock things when I'm tinkering.

We're not using a TS for the normal use, as I think I've explained a thousand times before.

Take a high gain amp. Lower the gain a notch. Stick a tubescreamer in front. You now have more clarity, balls, power, and smoothness than before. It compresses the signal, as well as boosting/cutting different things to make things sound way cleaner and clearer.

The bass cut/midboost is something we WANT to have when doing this - which is why I said that most people here aren't versed in what we're doing with a boost pedal.

Re: Recommend me a boost

Maybe you guys should get your amps changed??
What you do with the TS is ooooold news:D
Tons of funny haired dudes have done the same to their Marshalls, for a few decades now;)

Re: Recommend me a boost

I'm with Rid. What you're doing with the TS is very old news, like 30 years old news. I've done that very same thing before. It's no big secret so please don't make it seem like it's some secret recipe and not normal. It's perfectly normal and what more players do than you think.
