Recommend me a non-TS type OD

Ozone

New member
I'm looking for a great low-mid gain overdrive without that TS mid-hump. I've already got Visual Sounds' Route 88 so I've got the TS side covered. I tested TC's MojoMojo OD a couple of days ago and it sounded great but I'd be keen on trying other pedals too to find the perfect one for me. My budget is somewhere around 130$ give or take. Thanks

Re: Recommend me a non-TS type OD

Digitech Tone Driver is really versatile, and seriously overlooked.

Re: Recommend me a non-TS type OD

Here's a few that might be worth noting!

- Electro Harmonix Muff Overdrive
- Digitech Screaming Blues Overdrive
- Electro Harmonix Germanium XO (60's style overdrive)
- Electro Harmonix Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi
- Blackstar HT Drive (Has a 12AX7 tube in it)
- Carl Martin DC Drive
- MXR M77 Custom Badass Modified O.D.
- T-Rex Tonebug Overdrive

These are the models that come to mind at this moment :P
If you want a nice and warm organic overdrive, Electro Harmonix is definitely worth the money! Especially the Germanium ones, they have REAL vintage Germanium transistors in them, which gives them such a sweeeeeet tone!

the tone driver is a digital pedal from their x series, it's meant to emulate tube screamer sounds and blend between them with the morph knob. If he wants a non TS type, the tone driver is one of the last things the OP should be looking at.

anyways I like the boss bd-2, no mid hump
the OCD is also not so tube screamerish, more flat boost but not scooped.

Re: Recommend me a non-TS type OD

I have the garagetone chainsaw (which is a disto), but they have and OD at a VERY reasonable price that kicks ass. It is much below your price point, but thats not always a bad thing

EDIT: a few people are saying its TS Based but it gives you bass and treble controls to deal with that

Re: Recommend me a non-TS type OD

There are a lot of pedals in here that are based on the TS-808/SD-1...

The Prince of Tone is a great option, I'd also look at the Way Huge Pork Loin, Barber Direct Drive, Barber LTD SR, TC Electronics MojoMojo OD, Love Pedal AMP 50, Love Pedal OD11 maybe even a used ZVex BoR or Distortron which make great low gain OD pedals,

Re: Recommend me a non-TS type OD

Maybe Earthquaker Devices Crimson Drive?

Re: Recommend me a non-TS type OD

If you're wanting to stay on the cheap side:

Joyo Ultimate Drive is an OCD clone
Caline CP-18 is a BB Preamp clone

Both are pretty nice non-TS overdrives.

If you want non-Chinese copies, The Digitech Screamin' Blues is a good one, and I also like the MXR Zakk Wylde OD.

Re: Recommend me a non-TS type OD

I really like my Joyo Sweet Baby, but it might not have enough dirt for you. The Wylde OD has a BIG mid-hump, so it's probably not the best thing for the OP.

I LOVE those two OD's !!!

Don't know if it is possible, but if you can get a T-Rex Mudhoney (used off course) for that money, you will have a FANTASTIC OD !

Way Huge Red Llama, Way Huge Green Rhino, Way Huge Pork Loin, MXR Custom Badass Modified OD.

Scott Ian from Anthrax uses the dirty channel on his amp, then uses a booster pedal, so that it really slams then front end of it. I don't know what you're looking for in your sound, but any of these are highly recommended.

Yeah I love EHX stuff myself a lot too! Very good quality builds! Especially the Germanium ones are just so deliciously good :P

EDIT: I was thinking Mudhoney too! Also DRNO stuff is very good as well (I personally know the dude who makes them, he uses only the best parts) DRNO stuff is quite expensive new, but maybe a used DRNO pedal would totally rock his world!
