Recommend me a pickup for my guitar please...

I bought a 1991 Carvin X220 and it was in pretty bad shape. I'm restoring it now, I just got done sanding it down and I'm putting on the sealer now before I start spraying on the color coats. In the meantime I want to order some pickups for this guitar. I have the Seymour Duncan JB/59 set on all of my other guitars and my main playing style is metal but I also play some clean stuff which is when I usually use the neck pickup. I play through a high gain tube amp head and the JB has good distortion but I want something a little more distorted. The Carvin is a fairly light guitar with a neck through maple neck with an ebony fretboard, and poplar body sides. It has an original floyd rose tremolo too. It came with the EMG 81/85 combo when I bought it and I didn't like those pickups that much. They lacked the tone of my other guitars (mostly Jacksons). Also I'm going to have this guitar tuned a whole step down to D. So what pickup should I go with for the bridge position in this guitar?

I'm probably going to install the SD Jazz in the neck position.

Sounds like a Distortion will be right up your alley. If you want something that will be a tad less compressed the Custom is an awsome pickup too. It will do classic rock all the way thru screaming metal. Both will be far tighter than the JB. The custom will sound more open compared to the Distortion. Just depends on how distorted you want the pup to be. You have a high gain amp, so it's all about flavor.

Hi... maybe you could look into a Parallel Axis Distortion.

It's got a grinding bottom end and that is more than a JB has- plus a huge sound with very good harmonics.

Welcome to the forum btw. :)

Yeah and put a Jazz in the neck. Great cleans, more woody and clear than the 59!

Depends on the sound you want. The Custom is nice (think 80s/90s hard rock where this pickup had a definite low-frequency growl to it), and can do metal well in my opinion, although I've never used it. The Distortion is another option, if you don't mind your pickups themselves not being able to go clean that well. Last, in my opinion, is the SD Live Wire Metal humbucker. Also, if you want to do the Megadeth thing, you could do a Dave Mustain set, because the bridge would sound similar to a JB, and the neck would sould similar to a Jazz.

I guess I'm gonna go with the SD Distortion. The guitar has a floyd rose tremolo, so should I get the TB-6, Trembucker Distortion?
