Recommend me guitar music

Hey,

Looking to explore new music. It doesn't matter if it is extremely "geeky" or quirky or very pop or anything in between. If it sounds great to you that is great recommendation. I'm interested to get recommendations from fellow guitar players (cough... cough.... not much of a player myself yet. Just learning to get a hold of the basics).

Perhaps if you can do it by way of listing your absolute favourite 5 guitarists that would be great. If you wanna do more than 5 please do... 10, 15, 100.. the more the merrier. You may be thinking that some of your favourite players are well known artists and might not be new music to me. That's fine, I'm sure I would find some new artists that I didn't listen to before or listened properly. You may also want to, if you care to and have the time, recommend new/less know/"unknown legend" type players. If you add your own materials to this list I don't mind and would love to check those out too.

Thanks. :)

p.s. Why would I want to disable smilies?

Re: Recommend me guitar music

The first thing I think of when I hear, "guitar music," is Dick Dale, famous surf guitarist. I have always liked listening to him play.

Re: Recommend me guitar music

I'm big on instrumental artists, so here's a few of my favorites. (very proggy, so sorry if that's not your thing)

Francisco Meza is a great independent artist who I found on youtube a few years back. This is my favorite piece of his.

Re: Recommend me guitar music

Apparently I can only put 1 video per message...

I am a big fan of Intervals, Aaron Marshall has a great sense of meoldy and phrasing, and I cant get enough. It would be firmly placed in the "Djent" category, but I feel that this is a lot better than most of the rest. They have a singer now, and it's good stuff, but this is from the last instrumental album they did.

Re: Recommend me guitar music

The last solo in that song was a guest solo by David Maxim Micic, who wrote this huge magnum opus of crazy, genre-blending greatness. It's a cool, but long listen. There's a few guest solos by guys like Jeff Loomis too.

There are other artists like them on youtube if you like them. Guys like Plini, and Sergey Golovin. Check them out if you like these. Hope you enjoy!

Re: Recommend me guitar music

Pat Metheny is a lot of fun. "Bright Size Life" and "One Quiet Night" are two of my favorite albums of his.

Warren Haynes.

Derek Trucks.

Steven Wilson is cool too for a little more prog type stuff. I love Porcupine Tree and if you're looking for a little bit more pyrotechnics you can check out his last solo album "The Raven that Refused to Sing" where he has Guthrie Govan playing as well.

Brian Setzer never fails to amaze me.

This helps a lot with lead work and playing style. Thorough instructions for each part to practice with in the video itself. Great way to get a sense of the playing styles of different world class lead players in rock and metal. Great for breadth of lead guitar techniques.

What!! I just had nachos. ha ha...

Never heard of Meza. Thanks man for all the recommendations. But the videos aren't showing for some reasons.

Re: Recommend me guitar music

Check out Glen Kuykendall.

Mostly unknown, and appears to be an impish nerd, but he RIIIIIIIIIIIPS!

And also, he's a great songwriter with great tone (and great gear), and a great touch and style.

That second video is a guitar only clip, that I had to include because it kicks so much ass, but the song that he's riffing on, is also a great song. His album is highly recommended. By me, right now.

Check out that tone!

His album is on Spotify.

Re: Recommend me guitar music

I listen to some guitar geeky music from time to time. I'll list some that I'd recommend anyone to check out.

Jimmy Herring, plays with a lot of different groups but his two recent solo albums are awesome.

Roy Buchanan, the pinnacle of tele tone.

John Scofield, tastiest jazz guy ever. Not as showy as Metheny. Check out his stuff with Medeski, Martin, and Wood.

Zappa, Roxy and Elsewhere is a good intro.

Guitar->pedals->amp

Re: Recommend me guitar music

what immediately springs to my mind when I see "guitar music" is paul gilbert and buckethead, my two guitar heroes from when I just started playing. people always think of crazy face melting shreddy stuffs when those two are mentioned but they really kills it with their melodies

Re: Recommend me guitar music

I really like 331Erock and Charlie Parra Del Riego, they're youtube guitarists though.

Re: Recommend me guitar music

Scorpions.

Nobody does dual guitar like them.

Until recently that also went for the bass (guitar) playing.
