Recommend me some pre and power amp tubes

...i'm planning a complete retube on my fender hot rod deluxe reverb.....so both pre and power tubes will have to go......Please keep in mind that i do not mind for the drive and more drive channel cause i never use them.....

What i want is a VERY good clean sound on the clean channel (since i am getting all my distortion/od from pedals in front of the clean channel and i believe the secret to a good distorted sound is a good clean sound) with enough headroom so at least one 12AT7 should be in the preamp........

So which 12ax7/ 12AT7 and which 6L6 tubes should i look out for?

Re: Recommend me some pre and power amp tubes

i would say get a 5751 for the first preamp slot (from the right looking at the back of the amp), a strong 12ax7 for v2 and a strong matched 12ax7 for v3.

i tend to use gt tubes so i would use a 5751M, 12ax7M, and SAGax7 for preamp tubes and a pair of GT6L6GE power tubes rated at 7

i avoid using 12at7's now since they pull more than a 12ax7 but a 5751 pulls the same as a 12ax7 but has about 70% of the gain giving a cleaner front end

JJ ECC83S gold pin in V1 or V2 which ever is the first stage of clean channel - its gorgeous.

that would be v1 but thats a pretty hot tube

I dont know dude, in my Laney when its in V1 the first gain stage it cleans up really nice with a volume drop single coil in the neck and TS off. When its in V2 the first clean stage it does not break up at all, gorgeous complex kinda echoplexish glossy thick clean. I love it.

Re: Recommend me some pre and power amp tubes

i like the tube, dont get me wrong but it has a decent amount of gain and its output is about as high as anything currently being made

It's worth the money to find vintage Mullard tubes on e-bay--especially for bright-sounding amps.
