Recommend SD pickups for my hollow body guitar

Re: Recommend SD pickups for my hollow body guitar

If you're going to go P-90's then you owe it to yourself to look at Vintage Vibe Guitars and GFS Dream 90's. They're at the opposite ends of the spectrum but both of them are just amazing pickups.

Just put pearly gates set in my Ibanez AGS83 semi hollow and really like 'em.

I'd go with alnico 2 humbuckers over alnico 5 humbuckers just because I think alnico 5 humbuckers might have more bass than I ever need...especially in an acoustic guitar played at higher volumes. If you're Wes Montgomery, alnico 5 is fine...he played at lower volumes than most of us do these days though.

Seth Lovers, Alnico II pro, Pearly Gates or Antiquity.

If you want a hotter than vintage bridge humbucker, the Custom Custom.

I had a Seth Lover and Custom Custom in my Hamer Monoco Super Pro and felt that was the best sounding semi acoustic guitar I've ever owned.

If you want vintage output and a little more "bite" from the treble, a set of PG's would be cool too.

Alnico V PAF-a-likes are quickly becoming my fave pickups in my semi and full hollows. I really liked the Seths in my Sheraton, but I feel it sounds much more balanced and open with a pair of Pearly Gates + pickups in it. The same is true for the PG+ in the bridge of my hollow Alleykat. It seems to me that the bright top end in these pickups, along with their tight low end and open mids really complement the midrangey and somewhat loose tone these guitars have.

If you're worried about high volume with alnico V pickups in a semi, remember that Mr 335 himelf uses stock alnico V pickups in his axe. :)
