Early Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd, Blue Cheer, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Iron Butterfly,Grateful Dead, etc, etc
As for the ring modulator, the one that Zappa, Billy Gibbons and others used was called a Green Ringer, i believe. Moog makes one now and it has a ton of features, but it is pricey.

A Univibe is always a nice effect for psychedelic rock, theres the Dunlop one, and theres also the Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe which I've heard is better then the Dunlop supposedly. And of course, if you have 250+ dollars to spend, theres the Fulltone Mini Deja'Vibe (cream of the crop of univibes).

I think a pedal everyone should own is the Line 6 Delay modeler. No matter what you use for gain or fuzz, there's a lot of cool things you can do with that DL4 pedal, in conjunction with other pedals.

a delay. set the time to 100%. and the feedback to 100%, then turn the delay time knob when the repeats begin oscillating. The coollest psychedelic ever. This works great on a Line6 DL4, with the expression pedal. Old analog delays do it well too.

If you can find one, a Digitech Space Station is pretty darn freaky.

I'm inclined to say that the Tubevibe(http://www.effectrode.com/website/gear/gear.htm) is the best.

Self Oscilation is definitly cool for psych./stoner rock. Maybe a lot of flanger and ring mod. Fuzz/wah/octave. Really sludgy gain.

Do you use the expression pedal to keep the oscillation from going out of control? I love that effect too, but sometimes it can start spiraling out of control, and I have to shut it off. :smack: :laugh2:

Guyatone SV-2 Slow Volume. It is a sort of remake of the old Boss SG-1 Slow Gear, but the Boss was discontinued in 1982, and they go for over $300 on eBay.

My favorite pshyc effects are a UniVibe, Phase 90, Fuzz+Wah, anything made by Electro-Harmonix, and thundering/groovy bass.

I have one. It's a killer pedal, but to say it's the best ignores the fact that there are a number of equally good 'vibe pedals out there (particularily the Deja'Vibe and Mojo-Vibe).
