Recommendations on a sub $500.00 acoustic

Re: Recommendations on a sub $500.00 acoustic

SEAGULL. Amazing acoustic guitars for the cost. I paid $400 for mine. Sounds and plays AMAZING.

Recording King - lots of fun and cool options. The price will leave plenty of room for a pro setup

Re: Recommendations on a sub $500.00 acoustic

I have an Epiphone Hummingbird that I purchased under $200
And I have a Martin 000CE1 that was over $1000
Both play well the Epiphone has a shorter scale and with light strings, plays more like an electric
The Martin has a 25.6 scale the neck is thin and playable

Both sound like an acoustic
The Martin has electronics and sounds great amplified

I have owned a Yamaha and Alvarez, both were fine instruments

My Epiphone came with 12s on it
It sounded loud and full
But those strings were murder even with the short scale

12s are standard light gauge strings!

I learned to play guitar on an acoustic with mediums . . . and find 12s to be pretty comfy on acoustics these days. :P

Re: Recommendations on a sub $500.00 acoustic

Seagull acoustics (the S6 anyway) are quite nice in that price range, if you can get along with the 1 3/4 inch nut.

I couldn't find any of the Taylor 100 series for much under 800$ used, let alone the 200 series. Same story with the Martin D-16, even used they are going for 800-1000$ . . . but maybe that's just because I'm up here in Canada.

I got the S6 Slim for that reason. Narrower nut and fretboard.

Thank you for all the replies. Wow this is a lot of guitars haha.

I went into the shop and tried out a couple taylors that they had used along with the epiphone I was originally considering. I walked out of the store with a gibson les paul, so, yeah, i don't really know what happened.

HA! that sounds about right. there will be still be plenty of acoustics when you get around to it. best thing to do it play a bunch of em and see what you like. im a big fan of used guitars so keep playing stuff until something grabs you and demands you bring it home. like the les paul you just got :D

The ultra light strings on the short scale Epiphone feel more like the electric guitar he is accustomed to
I use tens

It's not as loud as the 12s

The Epiphone with 12s required a loud singing voice

One could also get a peizo equipped electric

Well, lets see a pic of this new LP!

Re: Recommendations on a sub $500.00 acoustic

walking out with a Lester is always the right option

Re: Recommendations on a sub $500.00 acoustic

Yamahas around the price range are flat-out stunning.

I hate everything about acoustic guitars so I play a sub-$500 Ovation during acoustic gigs and sort of love it. It doesn't feel like an acoustic guitar and doesn't sound like one to me, anyway, it has its own thing that I can absolutely relate to. I guess its V contour neck is among the top-3 fastest ones I've ever owned on any guitar, electrix included.

Re: Recommendations on a sub $500.00 acoustic

+1 for Seagull. I bought an Entourage Autumn Burst for under $500 new and it is heads and shoulders above anything else I looked at in that price range.
