Here are some demos. Let me know what you guys think! The singer/songwriter is an old friend of mine named Doug Parkinson. I'd say the genre is straightforward rock/pop. He's been wanting to record some tunes for a while and I finally coerced him to start recording them over at my place. This is the result:
Living In The Dark (upbeat, funky rocker):
Needless To Say (I'm digging this one a lot, I love the Strat sound on this one):
Memories (the quintessential slower groove):
Dougs always been a strat guy. He played my '56 RI Strat with the stock pickups and was inspired enough to use it for the recordings through my Vox AC15. Strats certainly fit some guys really well and he's one of them.
Apogee conversion, API preamps, Royer R121 panned left, SM57 panned right, center of cone almost spot on (maybe an inch or two off the grill). Vocal microphone courtesy of Lawson L47MP Mk II (pretty killer sound). I really wish I had his consistency in playing, he pretty much got all these to track within a max of 2 takes. A little metronome and he was playing right in the pocket (he's been playing bass for a long time and it kinda reflects on his feel with the electric guitar).
