Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

Re: Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

Cubase. Although I'm going to try out Sonar or ProTools in the near future.

Re: Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

Still using Cubase SX3. I'll probably upgrade to Cubase 4 when I mix my next project, which won't be for a while.

Re: Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

I'm using SX3 too on a 3.2 P4 with 2 gigs of RAM.

Does everything I need it to and a whole lotta stuff I don't.

Way...way WAY less expensive then Fool Toolz HD and is just as powerful.

Lots more stable too!

Dashing ~ What version of Toolz are you trying to run? Is it an actual LE system like a 002 or the M-Powered thing?

Maybe you should get a standalone recorder, especially if you can't afford to dedicate a PC to the recording thing...

Anytime & everytime I've had buddies ask me to help them figure out their problems it usually comes down to the software wanting to be 'dedicated'.

Macs are a bit better then PC's in the multi-tasking department. At least there isn't all that anti-virus & spyware krap chewing up the processor and hunting for auto-updates at the most inopertune times...

Re: Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

Nuendo2 with some extra plugins.....
Way overkill for my needs....but it is good to operate and I like how it behaves, I use Sony soundforge to finalise some of my stuff...

Re: Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

Im with wattage. If you dont need to record a live band, and dont need a million tracks, hardware recorders are awesome.

Once you get familiar with them :)

So much more reliable than computers

Re: Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

Hardware recorders are great for a lot of things, but I need the power and features of a computer-based DAW. There is simply no hardware device that can do everything I need to do.

In any case, I just ordered Cakewalk SONAR 6 Studio Edition for $199 US. W00t!

what did you think of Reaper - did you try it out?

A bit ... the interface was pretty primitive. I also need something that supports ReWire plug-ins (I love Reason).

For the money, it's awesome.

gotcha. just wondering why people use what they do. thanks for the info. glad you found a deal on the one you like.

Re: Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

I use Ableton Live Lite. I just upgraded to verison 6 for free but I haven't had much time to mess with it.

I am looking to upgrade to something like Cakewalk in the future however.

I don't doubt that at all.

Re: Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

I am curious.

How many tracks at a time are you guys recording with your PCs?

Re: Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

Apple Garageband 2. Will be upgrading to the next garageband when OSX Leopard comes out. It works for me, it does what I need and at a better quality than what a lot of bands in brantford are getting.

At most I'm recording 2 at a time. However, I have songs on my computer with 26 audio tracks. Once you do rhythm section, all the guitar parts, keys & synths, and vocals, it can start to add up.

Re: Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

I probably should ask how many can you? Depends on I/O I am sure.

You don't record a live kit? How much is latency an issue when you build up tracks?

It depends on your audio hardware and how beefy your computer is. The software itself has no limit. I suppose if you had the CPU and RAM to cope with it, you could hook up multiple 8-input sound units to your computer and record a lot of tracks at a time.

No I don't record a live kit, but if I ever do I would probably rent a hardware recorder and then shoot the tracks over to the computer via. the MBox's digital inputs.

Latency is always an issue, but it can be easily compensated for with live monitoring and by time-shifting the clip once it's recorded.

Re: Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

That's cool. I'm interested to see how you make out with your new setup. I have been considering setting up something here on a PC, more for mixing but possibly for recording as well.

Re: Recording pals! What DAW/Recording software are you using?

Adobe Audition. So problems so far! Once I start recording drums which will have it running 8 tracks at a time we'll see! Although latency hasn't been an issue yet. To help cope with that you can make rough mixdown and just track to that, that was the computer is playing back only 1 file instead of say, 8.
