Re: recording with amp modelers (line6 etc)
if you're really serious about recording, get a
Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum 2 EX or ZS. Then you can mic your amp with a Shure SM57, if you need a preamp/phantom power unit, i recommend a Behringer Shark for not thinning out your wallet (which the audigy will do). It will give you built-in compression, speaker delay, microphone pre-amp with phantom power, noise gate, low cut filter and clean feedback elimination. It's around 60 dollars. With the ZS or EX you really dont need it, but with it's features, it's nice to have. CEP2 will work wonderfully (that's what I use, in conjunction with other software and upgrades). To mic voice, I suggest something like a Behringer B-1 mic. If you have a POD, that's excellent. If you don't, look into it

, you can plug it in through the MIDI on the soundcard.
By the way, the soundcard is IMHO (and everyone else who knows of it) the best in the business. It has an external display that's wonderful, and it's perfect for recording.
I also recommend a Behringer Mixerboard (because they're relatively cheap, and very nice for the cash). One of the Euroracks.
I think the setup works wonderfully for home recording, and I'm used to running sound for bands/church (over 300,000-500,000 dollars worth of equipment) and the like.
for a cheaper alternative, you can buy a cheaper soundcard (i'd stick with soundblaster, something relatively new and fairly nice), and record via Line-in from the Shark or POD. There's many many many options out there.
