Refinishing a Les Paul Special

I'm currently working on a lil epi lespaul special i was given a couple yrs ago, it was alright, played decent more or less, tho i wasnt satisfied with the finish it came with, i despise the poly shell it comes wrapped in, if i wanna look at myself inna mirror i'll go to my full length one in my room nude, thats a lot more entertaining. also, before i go any further, save me the "why even bother..." bs, yer not the one refinishing, so please no whining.

I'm currently pretty much done with the stripped of the old wine red finish, from using a sander i've gotten most of it out, no paint stripper or any chemical is gonna get the shell out, so i spent a couple hrs doing this instead. one problem i'm facing right now is those stupid screw holes for the tune-o-matic (i believe), im guessing they're glued down into the body and its a ****ing pain to work around them

I'm here wondering if anyone knows howta get em out, cause its not putting them back in that'll be a problem, its just getting this finish done with them still in, I mean its an eye sore when im trying to sand this biznitch and who k nows what hell will follow when i finally put my desired finish on it.

heres a pic (im passed this stage, the whole thing is already sanded down, except for those ****ing holes, around them rather) If you wanna email me any suggestions, I'D REALLY APPRECIATE IT! Infinitesustain-miami@hotmail.com

JohnJohn's way is probaly the right way to do it. But I've used a block
of wood under the T.O.M. and just tighten down on the screw's untill
they start to pull out.
