has anybody refinished a guitar with korina wood?.. cuz I'd like to finish my epiphone 58 korina explorer in a transparent red finish with dark red burst on the edges.. was wondering if that would work out cuz I've never worked with korina guitars

Re: refinishing korina

Well, not EXACTLY like any other wood. It involves a bit more prepwork than, say, an alder body, basically ya just gotta make sure ya fill up the grain pretty well, get a nice flat surface to work with. The rest is all the same.

Re: refinishing korina

My understanding was that Epi Korina models had korina veneer as opposed to solid korina bodies. If that is the case, take care when sanding it down.

+1 I was ready to pull the trigger on a 58' korina V. Untill I noticed it was a Veneer. :13: I wouldn't take the chance sanding it down to bare wood. :saeek:

Which you also have to do on sapeli, mahogany, ash and others ... as well as most pieces having nicks and dents anyway .... so with the exception that I´m using LESS grain filler, it´s more or less exactly the same ;)

Re: refinishing korina

good idea.. because I plan on having a transparent finish (other than the burst on the outside
