refinishing question

Frito's Better Half
I've got an 82 Squire MIJ strat. I love the thing to death. It's a maple board with alot of fretboard wear in the first position. I like it. Now the body is LPB/Ocean Turqiouse. The finish is poly, with a very thin white primer. There's lots of chips and dents and scratches, and basically it makes it look like sh*t and is very uncomfortable to play. Now, what colors (vintage, since this is a 57RI) would look good with the maple board and white pickguard?

PS: I'm going to relic it a little bit, to make it fit in with the neck and make it more comfortable to play on the arm cut.

Re: refinishing question

the lighter daphne blue looks good on maple. so does the vin white.
my strat is a 3 tone with the rosewood board. i really reliced it. looks almost as bad as srv's #1 but not quite. i aged all the plastic, put gold vintage hardware on it. put a set of duncan ssl-6 calibrated custom flats, put a 50's style pin up graphics on, and applied a 60's style logo. i'll try to get some pics up.
it wakes me up at night oozing mojo all over the place.

Re: refinishing question

I was thinking about going with Oly white and relicing it a bit. If the wood is nice underneith, I might go with 2-tone sunburst. But I already have 2 other sunburst strats. I was also thinking about maybe a down to the wood vintage and relic'd brown. Alot like some of the spots on SRV's guitar, or Bonnie Riatts.

Re: refinishing question

I've done plenty of refinishes using ReRanch, and so has the guy I usually send my work to. I just dont know what color to go for, because this poly finish is driving me up the friggin wall.

Re: refinishing question

For vintage I'd say Surf Green, Dakota Red, Fender Blonde (Mary Kay White), Two-Tone Sunburst, or Lake Placid Blue Metallic. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Re: refinishing question

Yeah, I was debating between a brownish color (as if the finish was stripped 50 years ago and played and sweated on everyday) or Oly white. It's going to be Oly white if the wood underneith sucks. I dont want any unusal grain or something like that. And to tell the truth, I'm tired of the LPB, it's just not me.

Re: refinishing question

I think that the two color sunburst is the nicest color you can get on a strat, but that's just me.
