If you have the soldering skills, no prtoblem at all.

The soldering of one pickup is usually easy, as you are just replacing 2 wires. Does your Tele have the right wood route and pickguard for a p90??

edit - you'll also need some woodwork skills even if the body has the correct route, as a normal p90 mounts with 2 screws into the body - which will be in different positions to what stock tele neck screws are.

This is easy, but be warned that if you have a 4-position switch (using out-of-phase in some positions) some additional trickery will be involved.

Also, apart from the obvious obstacle of having a soapbar route you need to watch out that the pickguard you get has the soapbar hole in the right place.

A simpler alternative would be to purchase a Tele replacement pickup designed to sound similar to a P90. Lindy Fralin could be the place to look.

Eureka! The spelling error in the title of this thread has reminded me that, during the Nineties, Fender-Lace Sensors were offered for Telecaster.

The bridge position units were Strat Sensors mounted on Tele three-screw elevator plates. The neck position units were Tele neck/Rhythm pickup size. These came in two versions; Silver (traditional T tone) and Blue (trying to sound like a Gibson).

Try to find yourself a blue Fender-Lace Sensor for Tele neck/Rhythm position. (I don't think that Lace/AGI makes this any more.)

Anyone else on the topic of P90 type tone in the size of a standard Tele NECK pickup?

Re: Relacing a Telecaster neck pickup with a P-90?

I think the complicated part of the equation would be to route out a space for it if the guitar doesn't have a P90 sized route in the neck.

And as others have stated the pckguard having the spacing in the right spot, etc.

Soldering is easy just make a wiring plan/schematic.
