Removing tiny scratches in the finish

Re: Removing tiny scratches in the finish

ScratchX definitely has some melt-like properties.

Upon further research, it looks like Scratch X has silicone and should be avoided, but I'm not sure if this is applicable of you interacting with the clear coat and not bare wood.

It appears that a lot of products work by filing the scratched, like waxing, but I guess somehow different. It's easy to be confident that none actually melt the finish because the type of substance that would melt poly is not the same that would melt nitro, so there would need to be a distinction made in the product. Also I know from having used chemical stripper on poly, and plastic-eating solvents in general, that a melter that had enough of a reaction to remove a scratch would probably also leave the finish uneven, cloudy, or cause new scratches and ripples due to it's being rubbed and melted simultaneously.

One of the recommended guitar polishes appeared to be a filler, because it looked great until I cleaned the guitar with naptha, and the scratches were back.

Rookies.

!. Damp cloth
2. Use small amounts of cutting compound
3 Do small areas at a time by burnishing/rubbing into the body. DO it until all the compound has disappeared and the scratches go and the finish comes back up.
4. Thank me

Follow that by some polishing and #LAST# wax
