hello, first post. looking to upgrade
ive got 2 of these
http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/AXS32
stock pickups at the moment. all stock parts. elixir strings. best comparison i can make is to call an SG type. mahogany, set neck, very lightweight.
playing in drop C# and drop C. band sounds like thrice on cocaine. aggressive, fast, detailed and very guitar driven.
I don't think my amp setup is super pertinent because i have had the same trouble with every rig I've ever had. but at the moment i am using a pod hd500 (ts808 into engl fireball) into the power section of my flextone 3 (celestian 70-80's if I'm not mistaken). soon I will be upgrading to a custom cab with v30's and a standalone power amp. my woes with these pickups are apparent when recording direct as well, regardless of how good the amp sim.
simply put, they suffer greatly from being TOO ceramic. very ice-picky, a little nasally, entirely too compressed, and overall unpleasant in a high gain situation. for cleans, they are spectacular. shimmery, detailed, and full. but I don't turn off my overdrive for a single second in this band. i have the neck pup sunk as far into the body as it will go. It never gets used and I'm more prone to smack my finger on it than switch to it.
so my tonal goals are to find something more open, mid to high-ish gain, not annoying in the high frequencies, but not murky and inarticulate.
thoughts? thanks
