Replacement for LSR tuners

I have a Jackson KV1 that came with LSR tuners and I hate them. I want to swap them out for something else but I don't know what tuners would fit the holes. I have a Schaller Mini-Locking tuner set lying around but they won't work without additional routing (the machine heads are too short. So are there any tuners out there that I can just install without having to do any routing? I really want to play this guitar again but it is currently string-less and without machine heads.

Re: Replacement for LSR tuners

I think you’ll have to remove one tuner and measure the diameter of the hole to be sure you get the correct sizing.
I would think that most standard sized (non-mini) tuners would be tall enough. But again you can measure the height of the stock tuners and compare to the dimensions given by the replacement tuner.

Re: Replacement for LSR tuners

I have suggestions
But I have never heard of LSR tuners
Or the difference between these and any other

If you could get some quick measurements
I may be better able to help

Image of course speaks much better

These are not your grandpa's tuners:

They are pretty weird, ugly (though I admit, they look ok on this Pacifica), and I just don't like them.

Re: Replacement for LSR tuners

Those look really cool. Do they not work well?

They work well, but the ratio is 1:40 and they don't fit into most string winders. That ratio works well on the back of the headstock, but I'm too old to hold my wrist at the odd angle you have to hold them at to tune with the LSRs. Plus, I'm not too precise with my tuning anyway.

Re: Replacement for LSR tuners

I like them too. I think the trick is that the string should be pulled tight before you start winding. I use 40:1 tuners on my Steinberger, and love them. Of course, they are in a more ergonomic place.
