My goal wasn't necessarily to be totally noiseless. I like the classic Strat tones and had no real problem with the neck and mid pickup but it was the bridge that I had the problem with.

Thanks for the advice guys but I've made my mind up now and the guitar is now with the tech guy (One of the best ones in London I think) who's woking on it this week. I'll let you know how it sounds!! Fingers crossed I don't hate it.....

Congrats! I missed your post where you said you decided to go with the Lil '59 tapped. You definitely won't be disappointed with that pickup in my opinion. I never did the coil tap on mine though but I have thought about it, so let us know how it sounds.

I have two "vintage" style Strats(well actually three). Both are equipped with Antiquity pickups. One guityar has a set of the Texas Hots, the other has a set of Surfers. They are both really really good choices and I am hard pressed to pick one that I like better. I think the Surfers are beautiful clean & chimy. They take gain very well too. I have both sets in a rosewood fingerboard guitars so they sound really warm as well. My third Strat has a set of the Fralin blues specials. Also very clean chimy pickups. Personally I think the Duncans drive better then the Fralins do, but you can't go wrong either way IMHO!

The start sounds really really good now, I'm very happy with the sound. Big improvement!

I'd say that the lil 59 coil tapped is a bit quieter than the others but it's not a problem for me and i prefer the look of it to a full sized HB.

go for the quarter pounders! I have a qp lead pickup in my telecaster, it's basically like a single coil on roids. you get the cutting definition and clarity of a single coil, but you also get the output and thickness/fullness of a humbucker. it handles gain very well, but it also sounds awesome clean, so it is a very versatile choice of pickup.
