Replacing pickup backing plate

Re: Replacing pickup backing plate

Only way around that is to either replace the pickup rings (and again here: Jackson has a raised pickup ring in the bridge position) or make bigger threaded holes in the base plate of the pickup. Not going to bother with either at this stage either i.e. the DM SD hasn't been a problem and it too has the much thinner screws.

If that's really an issue to you, I would just plug and redrill the stock holes in the pickup rings, or else wrap the upper portion of the threads in something to take up the slop. Maybe some trimmed down black masking tape, or even plumber's tape.

Re: Replacing pickup backing plate

Hello.

Thanks. Some good ideas. Will see now when I put the Invader in (see if it's gonna be an issue pulling sideways or skew).

Re: Replacing pickup backing plate

Alrighty then.

Invader in.

Used the SD screws and springs this time. I dunno if it's my imagination but the SD screws SEEM to be "a hair" thicker than the Dimarzio screws (but not as thick as the Jackson screws). This time I also used the SD springs (man was that a flipping job and a half BUT I never had one springing across the room to my credit!!! LOL!!!). The SD springs are much narrower than the Jackson springs and fit really snug around the SD screws so I don't have to worry about coating the springs (as per my other thread on this topic somewhere) (then again: I've heard there's one or two other good reasons to do this but that can wait for another day).

So other than the color (which I ain't bothered about i.e. just noticed that from playing the black is coming of the Jackson screw heads ANYWAY so who am I kidding!!! LOL!!!) all seems good to go (just gotta solder the pickup in now).
