Replacing Pickups in PRS Custom 24 with the 5-way Pickup Switch

Hello:

I recently purchased a new PRS Custom 24 (2015 model). The guitar came with a pair of PRS 59/09 pickups and has the 5-way pickup switch. I would like to replace the bridge pickup (for starters) with a Duncan SH-4 JB. Is there a diagram or information available that indicates what color of each of the Duncan pickup's wires corresponds to the colors of the PRS pickup's wires?

I found the diagrams here:

http://www.seymourduncan.com/wiring...s,neck-h,bridge-h,1-volume,1-tone,5-way-blade

and

http://www.seymourduncan.com/wiring...-h,bridge-h,1-volume,1-tone,super-5-way-blade

But they really don't tell me about the colors nor do they look exactly like the guitar is wired.

Any help is most appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Steve

Perhaps my post was not well-worded. The PRS 5-way switch provides some coil taping options. Here is what I found on PRS' site:

◾Position 1: (down) Bridge Humbucker
◾Position 2: Bridge Humbucker with Neck Singlecoil
◾Position 3: Bridge and Neck Humbuckers
◾Position 4: Neck Singlecoil with Bridge Singlecoil
◾Position 5: (up) Neck Humbucker

Additionally, PRS has provided the following information about their pickup:

Black is ground. Red is for the coil tap. White is hot. Shield goes to ground.

On the Duncan pickup, the wires are black, red, white, green, and a bare ground. This is where my confusion comes in. Which color(s) are ground, which color is for the coil tap and which color is hot.

Again, thank you.

Follow this schematic diagram. http://www.prsguitars.com/csc/schematics/2015/custom_5wayblade.pdf

A = SD Bridge black
B = SD Bridge red/white
C = SD Bridge green
D = SD Neck red/white
E = SD Neck green
F = SD Neck black

Bare ground wires to a pot chassis.

To work correctly in a PRS Custom, it is necessary to reverse the bar magnet in one of the SD pickups.

Thank you again for the information. At this time, I am only replacing the 59/09 pickup in the bridge with the SH-4 JB. You mentioned reversing the bar magnet in one of the SD pickups.... Since I am only swaping the bridge at this time, is that still necessary. Thank you.

What kind of music are you playing, what kind of tones are you looking for? Putting a JB in a PRS is never a move I would make.

Lol, but blueman, you're known for not liking JBs. Though you might like one with a UOA5.

Offer up your new humbucker to the original bridge/Treble position humbucker, screw poles facing screw poles, stud poles facing stud poles. If the two pickups repel each other, they are already of the same magnetic polarity. There will be no need to modify anything.

As mentioned above, where the SH-/TB-4 JB is concerned, blueman is firmly in the anti camp. This time, however, his advice may prove correct. Your proposal is to replace one overwound Alnico 5 humbucker with another, even more overwound model.

Instead, I suggest either the Perpetual Burn model or the '59/Custom Hybrid.

Thank you so much to those of you that took the time to write out a thoughtful reply. I am honestly impressed with the desire to help that has been shown to me.

I have the '59/Custom Hybrid in the bridge of my McCarty and I'm really enjoying the tones I'm getting out of it. Sounds great split too.

Re: Replacing Pickups in PRS Custom 24 with the 5-way Pickup Switch

Doesn't PRS use a wiring that requires one of the magnets to be flipped on one of the pickups? I know the rotary switch ones do, but I am not sure about the 5-way regular switch ones.

From what I have heard and from what FUNKFINGERS mentioned, I believe they may. Thanks.
