Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

Didnt Scott F head it up last time? I know it was my original idea to do it this way and I suggested it when everyone was griping about a 10-12K pickup.

Yeah, but I think Scott said that he wouldn't ever do it again.

Just FYI you have to require the EXACT amount of money from everyone otherwise you end up losing money.

To the guys who are talking about the CS prices:

It's only 160 bucks for a pup you can personally design. We as guitarist don't think a thing about throwing down 500, 1K or 2K on a guitar but gripe about pups, our guitar's voice. I'd like them to be cheaper too, but when I consider I can get a humbucker in ANY coil config I want...that's not too bad.

As to what makes the BB cool:
The BB used 42 gauge Ant. wire so it had lots of clarity, but also a broken in kind of feel.

The mag is aged and it pulls in some of the lows and highs that the C5 and 59have to give you more high mids and low mids with about the same amount of true mids.

I personally liked the pup better with an aged A2 mag. Lots of sponginess and natural compression, thickness, with tons of bloom.

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

If the price is right I'd be in for two bridges and would really consider the possibility of a pickup to match it for the neck.

I'm right in the middle of a couple of projects and this would change everything about at least two of them.

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

I'm not saying this exact run should go down but I'd probably be in as well. However, I like the idea of having some limited runs just for the forum. It just makes the forum unique and also allows the users to sorta carve out some niche pickups that more than a few are requesting.

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

Due to circumstances, I wasn't able to get in on the first run, but I hope they don't do another. I know that sounds weird, its just that I think its cool that a company would do such a thing to begin with. If they make it a standard production run, or do it again, it takes some of the magic out of it.

I like the idea that a "special" pickup exists. And, as others have pointed out, you can still get one.

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

A Brobucker in double cream with logo would be interesting to me. Particularly if it had single conductor wire.

Dimarzio holds a patent on the double cream bobbin. I don't know if that only applies to production models, maybe you could get a custom pickup in double cream.

I'd pay extra to not have a logo. Or at least a much smaller one.

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

Since I've used one in my main guitar for a year, I'd change it just a little.
Create the same Brobucker, but with 9.5K and a lightly potted nickel cover.
I think that would perfect the original design. And also offer it in 2 batches, the A5 and A2.

What would really be cool is a matching neck, so it could be a $200 set. The Alnico 5 and Alnico 2 set, complete with neck pickup. This time do it with lightly potted covers, 9.5K, your choice of 5 or 2, and it's a bridge/neck set.

Essentially, it's be the modern day 'forum designed' PAF set.

you can get double cream as long as they sell it to you with a cover i think

As a dealer, I'm well aware of that. If they ship with a cover on them, all is good.

Spend the $160. It's not overkill. In fact, it's damn well worth it. I wasn't able to get one with the special run and price so I knew if I wanted one it would be at full CS price. Well, my wife beat me to it. She contacted MJ and bought me one. Tell ya what, if I could right now, I'd drop $160 down for another one in a heartbeat. It's by far the best pickup I have in any of my guitars right now.

Actually Dmz. holds a trademark they are pretty different. A trademark never expires, if it was a patent then SD could have started making dbl. creme uncovered pups about 10 years ago.

+1 more for the group buy and/or showing interest for special run forum pickup production

<p> Well, As the new owner of a "Brobucker" on the way, not to hijack the thread, but just what pup do you use with the "Bro" for neck postions ? Anybody got a link to that particualr discussion? I'm certain that had to have been discussed.

I'm using a Pearly Gates neck with my Brobucker in a PRS Cu22. Any of the vintage spec neck pups would work well though
