how do i go about checking the dc resistance on my humbucker, i emailed a tech from SD , and he told me to put the leads on the green and black wires... i have no idea how to work a multimeter, and there are a few meters where i work, can anyone help me and tell me how to check the dc resistance?

Re: Resistance check..please help!

Well, first of all - its better to have someone show you, than tell you.
If you have meters at work, ask someone to show you how to make a resistance measurement.

Having said that, basically, you put the meters "selector" switch on "ohms". This will, more than likely, be represented by the omega symbol rather than saying "ohms" per se. Especially if its a newer digital meter. Then, just take the two leads, red and black, and hold them against the green and black wires of the pup. Make sure the red and white wires of the pup are shorted together, (if its a 4-conductor pup), and also, make sure you don't hold the probes against the pup wires with your fingers. The resistance through your hands could throw off the reading.

Then, read the value from the meter, making sure to note what "Range" the meter is on. You'll probably see a small "k" somewhere in the display.

Re: Resistance check..please help!

thanks what i was doing wrong was not crossing the red and white wires, i got the reading of 16.40 ohms, this is the JB right?.. by the way the only reason i was dc checking the pup was to identify it, i bought it off of ebay and it had no sticker on back. thanks!

Re: Resistance check..please help!

That sounds about right. Just remember that that is 16.4 k ohms,
or 16,400 ohms. ;)
