Restoring my Warmoth LP

Re: Restoring my Warmoth LP

Hey, at least you don't still have your lights up...

I hope.

No, I took those down long ago. I am a bit OCD about getting the xmas decorations put away pretty quickly. Truth be told, the only reason the tablecloth is still there is because it's plastic and crappy, and it's totally ok to ruin it (my fiancee was going to just throw it out but I figured I might as well wreck it with paint and dye first).

Anyways, that looks killer. Absolutely killer. Are you going to do gold hardware? If not, go for black. Chrome would look... blargh.

I'll be using chrome. I think it will look great. IMO gold hardware only looks good on white, black, and purple, and black hardware is a little too "braided goatee and neck tattoo".

Check out my friend's "Oceanburst Hamer Standard he just parted with. It is a 2005 custom order.

Judging by BTMN's explorer picture below, I was dead wrong. Should look super sexy with chrome.

Re: Restoring my Warmoth LP

Looks great so far, I bet it's really going to pop with the clear coat over it!

I'm sure of it. Right now it looks great, but a bit dull and flat. The clear coat will give it a lot more depth and lustre. It will likely also darken the colour of the top a touch.

When I wiped the mahogany down with lacquer thinner I got a brief "preview" of what it will look like with a clear coat: a nice orange-brown with a few reddish streaks. Very cool.

Re: Restoring my Warmoth LP

this is awesome and it has given me the worst gas to start another project.

Re: Restoring my Warmoth LP

WOW! I really like that blue. That is going to look damn good when your finished. Chrome works really well with blue do to it having a blue hue to it.

Re: Restoring my Warmoth LP

So how's it going?

I got tennis elbow from the power sander (yes, I know, extremely lame), which has basically made my right hand useless, so there has been no progress while that heals.

I am waiting until March for Trevor to do the clear coat anyway, and all that's left before that happens is for me to stain the headstock. I'll probably do that this weekend.

Oh, and the pickups shipped, and should arrive any day now. I'm very excited about the set I chose :)

You really need to make something up to cover that injury... no need to be completely honest with something like that ;)

Re: Restoring my Warmoth LP

Stuff is happening again!

I used a deep brown stain on the front of the headstock. Not a drop of paint is going on this guitar! Here it is with one coat.

Here it is with three coats.

Also, clear coating is happening today! Here's a couple in progress shots of the body. I am told the camera makes the top look darker than it is.

Check out the back! I never knew mahogany could look like this. Looks almost like zebrawood.

The grain of the back is freaking mesmerizing. Absolutely gorgeous. This guitar is going to blow minds when it's finished.
