Reverb Pedal?

Re: Reverb Pedal?

I must be the only guitarist who thinks this, but spring reverb sounds cheesy and fake to me. Most guitarists have forgotten that "real" reverb doesn't come from a spring tank - it comes from a room. Digital reverb sounds a lot closer to "real" reverb than a spring tank ever will.

hahahaha, total BURN. And completely true. Spring reverb is only useful (in my opinion) for surf and rockabilly music, and I don't play either. For post rock, shoegaze and drone stuff, digital is the only way forward.

FWIW I've had a Digiverb and it's really decent. Much nicer than the Boss offerings. Verbzilla is really great too, I may get one one day just for the Octo setting.

I've currently got a Marshall Reflector, which is the best compact reverb pedal I've tried, though I've recently been thinking about offloading it and selling one of my amps to fund an Electro Harmonix Holiest Grail. For a mono setup, it really does look like the holiest grail of reverb - well, for my tastes anyway. Massive, spacey, makes you want to get stoned all the time and never turn it off.

That's a great point. I've been playing without any reverb at all for a long time, letting whatever room I was playing in be my reverb. I did a New Years Eve gig and as the hall filled up, I realized that a splash of reverb would add a little depth and color to my tone.

Oh and for what it's worth, I posted the same post on the Mesa boards and received zero replies. So while the jury might still be out on the Grail v Zilla debate, I'm ready to declare the Duncan boards the winner. Thanks guys.
